Bangladesh grow in confidence

The Bangladeshis have sealed their first tour win, defeating Worcestershire by 4 wickets with 14 overs to spare in a one-dayer at New Road.

After deciding to bat, Worcestershire were skittled for just 168 in 44.1 overs. Nazmul Hossain set up Bangladesh’s best day in the field with two early wickets, Stephen Moore and Steven Davies for 9 and 11. From that point in, every bowler chipped in creating a steady flow of wickets which ensured that no batsman could settle.

Zander de Bruyn was the only batsman to provide some form of resistance, making 34 while his team-mates crumbled under the pressure.

Nazmul finshed with figures of 24 for 3, just as good with the ball was Kahled Mahmud who claimed 29 for 3 while Manjural Islam Rana picked up 2 wickets of his own.

Bangladesh began their innings even more shakily than the home side, losing three quick wickets early on. However, with the score on 24 for 3, Javed Omar and Mohammed Ashrafal decided to knuckle down and attempt to lay the foundation for a win. They did just that, scoring 43 and 40 respectively before both were dismissed with the score on 106.

With the tourists reeling on 106/5, Worcestershire were back in the game and ready to crush the Bangladeshi’s hopes of claiming a victory. However, a sensible undefeated innings of 26 from captain Habibul Bashar ensured that the tourists would get their win and enter the upcoming NatWest series with renewed confidence.

Just how much Bangladesh have gained form the win will be decided when they play their first ODI of the series against England at Brit Oval on the 16th of June
