Moody named SL coach

Tom Moody has been confirmed as Sri Lanka’s new coach, ending speculation as to who would succeed John Dyson.

“We are delighted to announce that we have signed up Tom Moody as our new national coach until May 31, 2007,” said Typhon Mirando, the Sri Lanka board secretary. “Tom made a fantastic presentation about his background and the future of Sri Lanka’s cricket, and it was a unanimous decision to appoint him.”

Moody currently coaches county side Worcestershire, but his contract with them allows him to pursue international opportunities.

Moody played 8 Tests and 76 ODIs for Australia, including two World Cup wins in 1987 and 1999. Sri Lanka will be looking to him for guidance on the road to the 2007 World Cup.
