Mr Cricket: I’ll never walk

Michael Hussey has come out and said he will never ‘walk’, in his column for the The Sunday Mail.

The comments come as he defends himself from accusations of unsportsmanlike behavior following his decision to stand his ground in Friday night’s one-day game against England in Brisbane.

Television replays suggest Hussey was clearly caught behind, but the umpire gave him the benefit of the doubt and Hussey refused to walk.

“The umpires are out there to officiate,” he said.

“It’s their job to call whether a batsman is in or out. And that is why I will never walk.

“The fact is I was given not out by umpire Daryl Harper. Did I hit it? It was a very, very close call.

“Why are the umpires there if we take the job out of their hands?”

Hussey, who guided Australia home with an unbeaten 46 against England has explained that he accepts all decisions from the umpires, whether it be the good or the bad.

“It might be a cliche, but it’s a good one. I have always tried to accept their decision. Good or bad.

“I have always played the game as hard as I can. I yearn success and want to be out there as long as I can.

“If you look back on your career when you retire and weigh it up, there will be times it works in your favour and times when it doesn’t.”
