Kemp and Gibbs in injury scare

South Africa’s dream preparations for the 2007 World Cup have turned slightly sour with the news that Justin Kemp and Herschelle Gibbs have suffered injury scares.

Gibbs hurt a finger during a fielding drill and Kemp was hit in the toe whilst facing team-mate Charl Langeveldt in the nets.

South African management are hoping neither player will be forced to sit out the their first warm-up match against Ireland, in Trinidad & Tobago on Monday.

“We had both of them X-rayed and both have come back clear,” said the team doctor.

“There is no damage to the bone and they should not be affected too much.”
