India name East-Asia squad

Legspinner Anil Kumble could feature in the Indian squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy. This, despite his omission from the squad for the triangular series in Malaysia, to be held later this month. The series will feature the West Indies and Australia also.

For the series, the Indian squad will remain unchanged from the ill-fated tri-series in Sri Lanka, which was called off due to safety concerns.

Kumble has been included in India’s squad of 30 probables for the Champions Trophy, though he is currently suffering from tendinitis. According to ICC regulations, no player may be replaced in a Champions Trophy squad if the player is injured at the time of the naming of the squad.

Kumble has played 264 one-day internationals and taken 329 wickets at 30.76 apiece.

Discarded captain and player Sourav Ganguly has also been included in the squad of 30.
