Gayle to lead WI, with Lara out
Liam Camps |Chris Gayle will make his captaincy debut for the West Indies, as Brian Lara has been ruled out of the second one-day international against India. Lara has been suffering from a knee injury and will have to watch from the sidelines as the West Indies attempt to bounce back from a 14-run defeat in the first ODI.
“Brian has a longstanding chronic knee problem in his left knee and after the first ODI in Nagpur he pulled up a bit sore,” said team physio Stephen Partridge.
Gayle has played 156 ODI matches and receives the honour of leading the regional team in the absence of the usual vice-captain, Ramnaresh Sarwan. There was good news pertaining to the Windies injury camp, however, as allrounder Dwayne Bravo has been passed fit for the game. Bravo collided with the square leg umpire whilst fielding in the first game.
