Will Ponting get disciplined ?

If it's good enough for every other 12th man in international crisket to undertake his test duties, then it should be good enough for England.

Alas, the rules do not dictate this to be so.
Moor fool you then.

Too true!

I spend every day of my working life trying to bend rules rather than break them.

The fact that Eng have "bent" a few rules is more of an indictment on the Aus management than Eng.

That is just stupid. I always thought that cricket was a gentlemens game.

BTW, you started a thread on the incorrect definition of a word by spelling definition incorrectly. Just food for thought.
LOL!

Buuuuuttt isn't it the thought behind that matterss.....or am I just noticing shades... of nitpicking...

The difference between race and ethnicity is clearly arbitrary. But with regards to this thread, completely irrelevant. Any comments which may or may not be construed as racist might now be thought of as 'ethnicist' (if it wasn't a word, it should be).
The difference is NOT arbitrary - certainly not so arbitrary that race and ethnicity become interchangeable. I saw what I felt was a mistake. I comment on it. You commented on that comment. We went of on a tangent but that is inevitable in a thread 100 replies long and opening as vast a cane of worm as this one does.

The vast majority of Australian would have genetically transmitted physical characteristics which are common, so it's not ludicrous. The white person.
Vast majority? What vast majority please? the vast majority that is the product of latinos, aboriginals, east asians, west asians, sub-continental and anglosaxons mating with each other and within themselves? I thought Australia was about as ethnically and racially diverse as you could be - barring maybe United States and a couple of other migrational hot-centres.

And even if we buy the 'vast majority' arguement, what of the 'small minority'? We are branding a label on a whole, diverse group of people whilst simultaneous ignoring how big a self-contradiction it is.
You do not call a group of cows with a donkey in it a group of cows. You'll have to use some adjective or other, so why go to such lengths if an easier alternative is available.

Yes, I would hope that Ponting would be disciplined. If he isn't, I think it's completely fair game for people to complain, 'cause he's been walking at tightrope for some time now. I expect he will, though.

BTW, IMO, Dasa's comments weren't racist. I'm not sure I completely agree with him ('cause I don't think these traits are that unique to Australia), but if you can't criticize a culture - be it an institutional culture or a sporting culture - without being called a racist, we're all in serious trouble - and culture had already been put on the table in this thread before Dasa's comments. Also, these kinds of comments have been made, true or false, about Australia's sporting identity for some time now, by plenty of white Australians from both sides of the political spectrum.

The irony that people got so hand-wringing about such a comment but sat silently in the face of some seriously offensive racist stuff by a poster now banned doesn't escape me, however. And that's all I'll say about it because it's pretty clear by now that certain posters can't speak maturely on the issue of racism, and threads that converse on the issue almost inevitably get locked..

Perfectly justified response by ponting, in no way sourgrapes. Why should he get disiplined? did you even watch the game?
What is justified in the reaction to being run out.

If Saurav Ganguly can be banned for five matches (albeit ODI's) for India bowling a bit slowly, Ponting should cop at least a one match ban...
Please no, we need him skippering the side at The Oval.

We play with passion... that's Cricket Australian style.
Ironic that you've said this when you consider the almost complete lack of passion in the Australians in this series.

What were those fielding positions about today anyway? Pretend a random Australian batsman was at the crease and go with the Michael Vaughan playbook?

I think Cricket Australia need to find 11 new players if that's the case you want...

I more liked the "we must take wickets, so let's play with no slips" theory.

Far be it for me to stand up for the crims, but that's v harsh. Gilly & Martyn have both been perfect gentlemen all series & Martyn has had some real smellers too.

Warne & Lee have played the game in the right spirit too.

Australian cricketers are much better behaved than I have ever seen them.

Ponting has been disciplined. Fined 75% of match fee.
I'm pleased there's no suspension. I know that it was dissent, but at least he showed some passion for the cause.

It was a slightly tounge in cheek post.

Just to clarify, I'm sure such traits aren't unique to Australia. However, it's something that I find overwhelmingly negative....and shounak, I couldn't be stuffed countering all your posts, however I'll say one thing. Just because I may not be able to give an alternative doesn't diminish my point in any way - even if you think it may not be any better elsewhere, it doesn't make it better here.
