Will Jonny Bairstow ever play for England again?

Will YJB wear the three lions again in any format?

Brisk ton for Yorkshire today. A YouTube loop took me to England chasing down whatever it was India set here in 2022 for a 7 wicket win. Man he was so good that summer.

I read Luke Wright earlier saying the door is still open, but they always do don’t they.

It feels like his Test career is over, but then if Harry Brook was injured would they go next cab off the rank and pick Cox, or go hmmm YJB in form?

White ball squads are somewhat experimental but Wright has already said he wouldn’t be surprised to take Root and Stokes to the CT so who knows if that thought also extends to Jonny.

He was truly awful in the field at the games I went to in the T20 WC; like notably bad in a way I don’t think I’d have picked up on TV. But I don’t get the vibe of someone who doesn’t want to be there. Just someone who doesn’t know how to be there maybe?

We’ve all thought he was done about 7 times. Is this it?

It shouldn't be. Before that injury he was tracking to basically just add Brooks' awesome start to his career to his own amazing run of form

In another universe he peels off like 10 tons in 10 tests. It's a big what if for me, because he's seemingly reverted back to his old form

Unless there's an emergency injury crisis and England feel they really need someone with experience to come in and play for a fixed number of games (e.g., to finish off an important series or something, like they did with Martin Bicknell about twenty years ago - and England don't play any important series until around this time next year), I doubt he will ever appear again. Probably rightly.

Can't really see him playing another Test now but could still see a white ball return.

Got to admire him for going and playing for Yorkshire though, hope he keeps doing that and makes loads of runs in county cricket the next few years.

he's a colossal liability in the field now, especially in white ball. shame cause when he was slimmer him and stokes as boundary riders on opposite sides of the field were monsters.

When Will O'Rourke, Ben Sears, and Matt Henry destroy England for 4 sub 150 scores in the 1st 2 tests in Nov/Dec a few England batters will retire before the 3rd test, so JB might return.

He turns 35 in less than a month, time to move on.
Had it in my head that he was 37, I’ve become too Ashes-pilled! Hard to see a way back for him in the limited overs sides, and the Test middle order is looking set now, if one of them gets injured now, surely it’d be Cox to step in

I think he has been a fantastic player at times for England and also had some huge troughs of poor form but now is the time to move on. Wonderful white ball player and one of our first ever but at 35 it is time to move on.

Hopefully not. He's had his time and isn't good enough to keep in the side like you would with James Anderson.

I can still see him playing limited overs for England, I think his test career is done now, however.

I'm just not sure how. He's basically 35, is a sub standard fielder and we're not exactly short of aggressive opener options. If I were him I'd get on the Franchise train....

His best bet is probably as reserve keeper and Smith gets ill in Pakistan. Not that I'd take him but he technically covers 2 bases.
