I am confused between Richard’s/McGrath & Sachin/Steyn

Which is more important to winning games, batting consistency or bowling consistency? Let's assume the rest of the lineup is simple average test quality.

Viv and McGrath.

Viv even if less consistent than Tendulkar is made up for McGraths day in day out consistency and his own capacity to take away the game with his knocks and have the occasional awesome series. McGrath will enhance the potency of the entire bowling attack with his pressure.

Steyn can win you games by his lonesome but will lose you games. He is more dependent on the support he gets I feel. Tendulkar scores just enough to keep you competitive but not more than that.

With Sachin you will have a more consistent flow of series but much less really outlier high spikes that you would get with Viv.

I'll say Sachin has a higher output by less than half a run, maybe like 0.2 runs on Average, maybe like 0.1 more realistically tbh.

True you are but output is more different with Steyn and McGrath in terms of runs leaked and also where they get their wickets.

I would grant Steyn is more penetrative in the SC but England and Australia are different.

I think McGrath in Aus probably handles flat pitches better even with Steyn super spells.

Naw.

Even when McGrath wasn't taking wickets, Australia felt on top. He had that side effect which Steyn did not.

@HouHsiaoHsien rates Steyn slightly above/on par with McGrath. I won't but don't think it's unreasonable. It's the same as Lara>Sachin imo.

well I think Lara>Sachin doesn't make sense either so lol, atleast I'm consistent
