I don't think we're supposed to assume the opposition batting lineup as the premise of the question. I took it basically as him asking whether Australia would be better than they are now at home if they had SA's attack instead.SA
They don't have Starc. Also, SA having a mainly RH batting lineup neuters Lyon.
oh good, those genetics do not need to be perpetuatedneuters Lyon.
I don't think you can shear the question of its context.I don't think we're supposed to assume the opposition batting lineup as the premise of the question. I took it basically as him asking whether Australia would be better than they are now at home if they had SA's attack instead.
Funny, I would have said the exact opposite - mostly because Lyon has fallen away so much from his peak form.If all the players in these attacks were at there theoretical peaks I would take SA, at the current time I would take AUS.
Lyon's returns have been fine at home and away recently aside from the last time india toured, no?Funny, I would have said the exact opposite - mostly because Lyon has fallen away so much from his peak form.
Yeah in Aus, where he's been well off his best for a few summers now.Hmm Lyon won two tests in Pak and Sl. Or are we talking about performances in Aus
In 2021 he took 16 wickets @23.6, in 2019 he took 27 wickets @ 22, in 2018 he took 25 wickets @32.6. He had a horrid summer in 2020 no doubt but he's not been that poor at home, has he?Yeah in Aus, where he's been well off his best for a few summers now.
He was definitely still a ways off his best last summer IMO. By no means bad but no longer the point of difference in the attack, he just doesn't take enough poles at home at the moment. In 2021 he took 16 wickets @23.6, in 2019 he took 27 wickets @ 22, in 2018 he took 25 wickets @32.6. That's a fair point tbh. Would be curious to see how many of Lyons wickets last summer where tail ender wickets. He 100% didn't look like taking wickets vs India in 2021, was a major reason we lost that series IMO.He was definitely still a ways off his best last summer IMO. Nah, SA have done well here for a while now. Plus they always seem to be able to pull a performance out of their backsides. That's why as much as much as Indian fans would like to claim they're our number one rivals SA are the team I'm actually afraid of when they visit. The Aussie bowlers know their conditions . SA suck at beating England in tests home and away , so using an attack that is used to being on the losing side against England wouldn't bode well for the Ashes .
It was only ten years ago we seemed to be picking a new attack every game. It's amazing how Australia's top 3 pacers are always fit for international games. They are always on the park.
