What would Herbert Sutcliffe average in the modern era? (Let’s say 80s/90s)

What do you think Sutcliffe would average if you transported him from the 1920s/1930s to play for England in the 1980s/1990s where he’d have to face all the ATG fast bowlers from WI/Pak/SA/Aus/NZ?

Adorable Asshole

He bated in a very batting friendly era while 90s were the most bowling friendly era. So I think around 50.

Also just found out he debuted when he was 30. Why did it took him so late?

Edit - Yeah forgot about the WWI

50+. He could middle vs the stronger attacks and feast on the weaker ones.

He would average 42.97 as an opener in a typical (not batting / bowling friendly) subera within the modern post 1970 era.

Here’s some of Sutcliffe and he looks bloody great. Just don’t forget to turn the background sound off.

I don't know about "bloody great", as the quality of some of those clips certainly isn't. But he does look fine, and there's nothing obviously extreme about his batting approach.

The question with older batsmen is never about them or how they look though, as their performance is "bloody great" just as their numbers tend to show. It's about who they're facing.
