What were you thinking when

Jumno

First Class Debutant
The 2019 world cup final.

15 required off 6

49.1 dot ball
49.2 dot ball

Now 15 off four balls and a boundary every ball or two sixes, a two and a single for England to win the world cup.

All I was thinking was "what is happening, only four balls left for England. Surely it's Ben Stokes and he has got to do something".

What were you thinking when he played two dot balls into facing the ultimate third ball which could decide the fate of the England team?

Of course, what followed is quite legendary, Stokes hit a six, then another bizarre six followed.

I expected us to win with a ball to spare

I expected it to be a tie and it to be decided on countback where the team who lost the least wickets would be declared the 'winners'.

Tbh. I was asleep, and was thinking of nothing that I can remember

Not Terrible
He's telling the truth, also he wasn't wearing pants at this point because he had at some stage soiled them. He had also dove headfirst into a nearby pond, drank at least half a bottle of methylated spirits and taken up three separate religious doctrines to pray for Divine intervention on England's behalf (with varying degrees of success).

Having finally found himself, he then expected England to win with a ball to spare and promptly fainted when they did not.

When the boundaries were counted back he arose and to this day still thinks they won that match.

Not sure if anyone has a link to it but @Howe_zat live commentary during that over is absolutely legendary!!!

Something along the lines of "**** this I need some booze"

The boundary step over, the over throws and how the win was decided.

Divine intervention.

I love Fred's "buzzers!" post in that thread, like they were in any way close to just standard overthrows lol. Everyone else is basically just like... melting down saying wtf wtf

This part scarily close to the truth. I woke up in the morning and looked at my phone, which still had the cricinfo scoring open, and thought they won that match.

But then didn't understand the headlines and articles, when I closed the scoring app, which were saying England had won.

So, for about 30 seconds or a minute I thought we had won a world cup.

The game itself was tied twice and the over throws, when luck really needed to happen, it did.

I couldn't believe it, it had to happen in a world cup final when the game was on the line.

The most exciting, tense and crazy game of all time.

On Facebook, people were saying they have never seen a game like that ever.

I only remember a clear thought from the final ball of that over, or whenever the dot ball yorker was, because I was basically nodding like 'yep, did what was expected. Stokes was equal to it but not better than it, fair enough, super over time." The rest of the over was just intense staring at the TV 3 feet from it with the boys. Was the 6 that should have been 5 that over? By that point I was already pretty mad that every 50/50 lbw was going to the Big 3 team.

The final ball of the super over was the worst. When Guptill hit it the initial trajectory seemed so obviously two, but it wasn't. It was a tie.
