It was mainly Hutton being a lazy ****. Scored tons in 2 matches and then didn’t bother to come out and chase the 4th innings totals. (72 and 73). In both chases only 1 wicket fell so Compton didn’t bat in either, or in the final innings of the other (drawn) test.
