WCC's next big thing...

Last season we saw the emergence of three players who looked the part. T.Darden, B.Allen and M.Jenkins took WCC by storm and looked to have established themselves as the ones to look out for in the years to come. But this season all three have been below par, and off the mark, losing some of their mana along the way.

How will these players go in future seasons? Were they one hit wonders? Or was it just a disease that effects all second year players known as second year syndrome?

This season IMO, saw two new players emerge that could perhaps be the exception to this rule. The of Ismael Nelson of Western Province, O Clarke of Canterbury, Daniel Howarth of Warwickshire and M Ramage of ACT.

Nelson was the key man in Province turn around in their four day compaign. WP looked up the creek with no paddle at the half way stage but staged a remarkable revival, only to miss by a nose. He took 58 wickets at 18, including 4 5 wicket haul. He is indeed to watch out...

Clarke like Nelson played in division 4. He picked up 66 wickets at 17, and Canterbury would thank him most for their championship success. In one dayers he was their leading bowler again with 23 wickets. Clarke is all ready one of the best all rounders in WCC. Give him a few more seasons and he'll right up there with Stratton and Jones.

I think the first 3 Allen etc will all be back strong next season with the new sim as their extra season or two will give them valuble advatage and afterall Allen for me avg'ed like 55 and 47 now it's bad for him, but iam sure most players could live with that

Now for the Kent Manager

Iam damn outraged that a thread like this could miss such a damn obvious talent of the season in young Hawkins the guy has done everything on his own. In the Four Day arena he took just 66 wickets @ a usless 13 and well OD was pretty rubbish to I mean 13 wkts @ 18 isn't anything to write home about and above all that he built a space ship and made £100 million on the stock market..................................................

M Beasley also played pretty well

OD 190 runs @ 27 and 12 wickets @ 37, not particularly great BUT

4d 619 runs @ 38 and 39 wickets @ 18


O Clarke will turn into more of a bowler next season, cause his batting averages are so low but Beasleys will not move much at all. he with nelson will continue to be great bowlers but they are of no real use with the bat like Beasley

He has played well in both the seasons and is the best allrounder in WCC.R Stratton had a good season this time around and if he goes the same way then he will soon catch up with A Jones or can also become better than him.

As age said Clarke will become more a bowler in next season as he hasnt performed with the bat this season.He will fall in the category of a bowler who can bat a bit and not a allrounder.

Howarth IMO has the making of a truly great bat. This season he made 998 runs in 4d at 83 with three centuries, and a top score of 167. He scored 307 runs at 61 in one day. Howarth's first season has gone just like the top rookies who came before him. My only question is: will he suffer second year syndrome.? Lets hope not...

Look @ R Webster from Victoria, he also looks to be a great young rookie and he already has 40+ games in both forms. so he's got a better chance of playing better than almost all the other players mentioned in the thread.

next season he's gonna be about this (4d first):

40+/30-35 batting 48/35-40 bowl

he'll be 20 years old with between 40-50 matches in both forms and he'll be at TN

Ramages took fifty wickets at 26 in the division five league. But his claim to fame was amazing display of 9 for 7 against Free State in the early rounds of the one dayers. In the one dayers he picked up a remarkable 30 wickets at an amazing average of 9! On four occasions he took 4 wickets or more. No bowlers was as dominant as this man. Pitty he's 30 (and I thought he was a youngster). However for the next few seasons he'll be one to watch as ACT begin the charge up the ranks of WCC...

Well I tend to agree with what Nibblet said, the rookie would have to be O Clarke, but he always was going to be looking at his stats.
Bowling wise he went toe to toe with Nelson, however his batting makes him a complete player, and A JOnes, i dunno if he's 19 but he's pretty good to

IMO A Jones is a bowler that bats a bit, he isn't a top class All Rounder that people make him out to be.

OD batting 130 Runs @ 65 is hardly anything to write home about.. on paper people see @ 65 and thing wow that's great, but really what's that 16 runs a inngs (I know he was out for a couple of games - if not it's even worse at just 13 runs per inngs)

The only reason it's anywhere near that number is because he comes in @ like 7/8 and gets loads of N/O's

Likewise im FD 3 N/O's and a 100* - Without that 100* he would have avg'ed just 19 with the bat.

I think his bowling is good, but his way too overated for my liking with the bat, I would take Stratton ahead of him as a genuine AR.

Clarke is all ready one of the best all rounders in WCC. Give him a few more seasons and he'll right up there with Stratton and Jones.

I think this is a bit of an exaggeration as he can bat, but not well enough to be an all rounder. Given a few seasons i think his batting will become shi.... lets just say not very good.

The stats of R Stratton and A jones are similar.

I agree that he is a much better bowler than a batsman but he doent get chance to play in the top order due to the star studded Karnataka lineup.Imagine if he was with u wouldnt u bat him at 4 in fc looking at ur current batting avges he would have been the 4th best batsman of urs.So it just that he doesnt gets chance to bat long innings as he comes at no 7 in fc and no 8 in od.

One more thing is that he has had 2 good seasons back to back which is rare.His last season was exceptional and this one good.R Stratton on the other hand has come in terms only this season.His od bowling isnt that great with sr 43.

This debate will go on and on and never end as to who is better.For me i think A jones has been instrumental in the success my team so i rate him highly.
