WCC Manager Survey - Results Posted

Hey guys, I've put together this survey that I'd like everyone to participate in. If there are questions you dont want to answer then just leave them blank but I'd like everyone to make an effort to put in some responses for the questions they have an opinion on. It's important for the future of the game so we know what we can do to make it more enjoyable for everyone.

Section 1 - The Game
1. Do you agree with the decision to go to 2 games per week next season?
2. Do you feel games are simmed and information relating to WCC are posted in good time after each match?
3. Do you find the game fun to play or just something else to do?
4. What changes, if any, would you make to the structure if given the chance?
5. Would you still stay in the game if a greater involvement from managers was required?

Section 2 - The Draft
1. Do you enjoy participating in the draft process?
2. Do you think the draft structure and system is fair?
3. Would you support changing the draft with something similar? If so any ideas?
4. Do you like the current draft players being generated rookies and real life club players for those already in WCC, or would you like to see more real life players added?
5. Should managers have the option to not take part in the draft if they already like their squad?

Section 3 - Expansion
1. Do you believe there is enough interest or would be enough to consider adding two more sides for season 4?
2. If two more sides were added to WCC would you prefer to have two bigger divisions or cut it down to three smaller divisions?
3. Should the new teams be given priority draft picks to help them compete in WCC sooner?
4. Whats countries do you think should be expanded in to? More from existing nations like NZ, England and South Africa or add some from West Indies or other nations?
5. Would you be in favour of "a make believe club" such as one made up entirely of the best domestic Bangladesh players or something similar?

Section 4 - The Future
1. Do you see WCC having a long term future with the current set up?
2. Would you consider taking on a bigger role behind the scenes if asked?
3. Do you think any future changes should be made to keep the game as simple as possible or to increase enjoyment and involvement from managers that may raise the workload?
4. Are you concerned that the rookies being added in are too good and that WCC is in danger of becoming over skilled again?

Section 5 - Trading
1. Have you found the allowing of draft picks beneficial? Would you like to see this kept for future seasons?
2. Is there any changes to the trading process that you would like to see?

4. Do you think there should be a bigger crack down on unfair trades or do you think managers should be responsible for their own actions in trading?

1. Would you like to see new players brought into the game at their real life club? E.g NSW would have first option as signing David Warner to replace someone at their club.

First of all thanks to everyone for participating, I gathered a lot of interesting info from the survey. The main reason that I decided to do this was to see if you guys (the managers) has the same thoughts as to the direction of WCC that I did. I've been of the opinion in the past that the general managers haven't really had a lot of input into the decisions made and I want that to change. As has been proven by this survey not everyone is going to agree with everything, some people liked some ideas some didnt. Now I'll give you a run down section by section as to what you guys have said.

Section 1 - The Game
There was a very positive response to this section. First of all I'm glad everyone is happy in the time that that I get the results and information out, when I started WCC back up this was the number one goal, to have information to the managers in the fastest possible time. The decision to go to two games per week has been hugely supported, in fact 11 of the 13 are very much in favour while one was 50/50 and another against it. Its a big step for WCC so I hope it goes well. Also in this section it was good to see nearly all the managers again have indicated they would still remain manager of their side if a great involvement was required, what or if that happens is yet to be seen but it's nice to know nonetheless.

Section 2 - The Draft
A bit of a mixed bag with the response here, again nearly all the managers like the idea of the draft and see no need to change the process, there were a few minor changes thrown up here which may be looked at, but at this stage it will remain as is. There were some differing views on teams being forced to participate in the draft, some managers feel they should be able to maintain the squad they want and not be forced to do it, but others feel its vital in keeping the balance of sides fair. Again a mixed response with the question or real life players or rookies, for some they have indicated they like having fake players brought into the squad that they can groom as their own, so to speak, while just over half the managers have indicated they would like to see more real life players. This will be considered for future drafts, the problem with adding more real life players is that it limits our future expansion, so the only way to do this would be to pinpoint the areas that WCC most likely wont have teams in the future and possibly add their players to the draft. But we will come to that in the next year or so.

Section 3 - Expansion
The overall feeling here was pretty similar, a small expansion would only work if the managers are committed. I asked the question with season 4 in mind. I think we have a good group of managers now, so if everyone stays in the game its likely we will have new people interested and we can look to add a few more teams then. Judging by the response it's almost certain that one of the sides to be added would be from the West Indies as they seemed a popular choice. My idea of a make believe side didnt have huge support, around 6 or 7 people thought it would work others seemed a bit iffy on it. A fourth team for England also got a bit of support, perhaps if we are to expand I'll put that to a manager vote then. Smaller divisions got the majority of support here too. I'd like to avoid byes like the plague so three divisions of 6 would be more favoured over say one of 10 and another of 8. Most people seemed in agreement that the new sides depending on their strength of squad at the start should be given early draft picks in their first season only.

Section 4 - The Future
Very happy with the responses I got here, everyone seems to think that the future is bright for WCC. A large number of people have indicated they would be willing to do more to help the game progress too which is fantastic. At this point of time I manage with what I have on and what is planned, but with future initatives its possible small ammounts of help would be required to help, it's nice to know there are people there. Questions 3 about future changes got a few mixed responses, its obvious people like playing WCC for its simplicity and they enjoy this a lot, however quite a few people also indicated that "having more to do" would make the game more enjoyable and options should be looked at. In an ideal world both of these would be combined so I'm considering a number of options here.

Section 5 - Trading
Pretty much everyone enjoyed being able to trade draft picks. This was the first year we have really allowed this and I have been a bit 50/50 on it, personally the idea of the draft is to strengthen the lower sides and if they are trading their picks for some not great players it defeats the idea of it. However as I said nearly everyone liked this aspect of trading so it will remain. Everyone seems satisfied with how trading runs and would like to see more protection given to inexperienced managers when it comes to "dodgey trades" so this will be looked at from here on in. The general concensus was that a small trading period of about a week after the draft would be neccesary too.

Section 6 - Everything Else
The Idea of bringing new players in at their existing clubs had decent support, but I feel the arguments of those saying it's not a good idea outweighed those who would like to see it happen. These players bring a sense of strength to the draft and this will remain so. Retirement rookies only going to the clubs and all other rookies going through the draft and academy seems to work so that will also remain the way it has been. Most managers feel their enjoyment of WCC could be better if there was a bit more banter on the forums between managers and also some rivalry between the teams. This is up to the individual managers how they want to approach it. However most people feel everyone makes an effort to stay involved as much as possible, on a personal note I've been happy with the submission levels this season and hope it only gets better next year, however there could be more responses to the matches etc.
One suggestion that gained a couple of mentions was the adding to the squads of an 18th man. With WCC being less skilled that it used to be perhaps the need for an extra player, someone who might be a one form specialist is being looked at. This may be added for season 4.

As for my take on the results...

Im glad most managers are willing to stay in the game if there was more involved cause imo to keep the longevity of the game more needs to be involved.. I know alot say the simpler it is the more fun it is, but seriously hardly anything happens other then posting your team and getting results..

I've spoken to Simon and expressed my thoughts on possibly trying to implement a simple but enjoyable finance model that would be incorporated into trading. I have a few ideas which i have discussed with him however will go over a few more things with him before i put it out here for thoughts..

I know when i started this game off all those years ago the aim was to start simple and move forward from there, and i think unless the game moves forward then the same problems of inactivity will keep arising.

Yeh what Blewy said, even though I manage a South African side and he manages an English side Id easily say hes my biggest rival in WCC just because of the past. Although I feel through on field performances I have a pretty good one going with Kandurata and Tharmi now.

I know a finance model was adopted in the past, and it was well set up by Marc, however I think finance can get a little complicated.

I think a better system would be to rank players on a 1-5 basis, much like Cricket Web Cricket would work much better. It has worked really well in that game, I'm sure it will do the same here.

Disappointed most managers don't agree that teams should have first right at real life players. Personally I think retirement rookies (or could be renamed to replacements) should be RL players from your club.

Rivary are created by me telling you all that you suck and you telling me to **** off. All we are missing is the 2nd bit tbh. Cus you all suck.

Marc financial system was way too complicated. It really does deep on what is the point of finances, is it just for a salary cap or does it effect everything. It works ok in CW XI as it only for salary cap. Though their is more trading in this game, so it would be good for new managers to get a better idea of the quality of their players.

Disappointed there no changes to draft system. Don't like the current system at all or more importantly the retaining system. Watch this space for more pointless trades next season.

Would you be saying that if you managed Auckland or (hypothetically) Mashonaland?
