I am in no way comparing both innings. But I am saying Richards was a good player of spin, whilst being one of the best ever players of pace. Sehwag was one of the best ever players of spin. But he was downright poor against pace in non flat pitches. Viv had no such weakness
This I do agree. However Sehwag was the best player of spin in the history of cricket. That is why Viv is a better batsman than Sehwag. However on given conditions - which may be extremely difficult - Sehwag plays as destructive as if not more than Viv.

In this whole conversation we are forgetting Gilchrist. He has some weakness against quality spin, but was one of the best against pace. It needed ridiculously brilliant deliveries from pacers to get rid of him.

I agree Sehwag is the best player of spin. Even Lara as has been established struggled against certain spinners.

But Viv is just a superior all-condition all-attack player.

Gilly has a question mark since he batted so down the order against tired attacks.

Gilly has some stellar knocks when oppositions was with their tails up and Australia 5 down. He didn't slow down then either.

It was Arshad Ayub and Maninder Singh who were the spinners, but the point still stands. A sure shot loss was in cards for WI until Viv did Viv things.
Given that Hirwani ran through the side so spectacularly later in the series, this would have been the first series WI lost since 1980. They hung on to that unbeaten streak until 1995.

There was also a great hundred which he scored a few months later against Pakistan which helped WI to draw the match and eventually the series. Another instance when the streak got extended.

Viv's impact as a batsman was well beyond what an average of "just 50" suggests.
Sehwag couldn’t buy a run in England or Nz or SA, and he was not facing great bowler in the previous two. Viv didn’t face Murali/Warne but dominated all the best spinners of his time, some of which were brilliant bowlers like Chandrasekhar, Underwood
The fact that these things have to be repeated and these perceptions exist.

In a couple generations Sangakkara may be rated higher than Sir IVA

Barrington's numbers clearly flatter him but he must have had a great temperament to apply such consistency.

You’re the one going around calling people horribly wrong and misguided and whinging when people have different opinions from you mate.
Curiously he can never see a single reason why people hold views opposed to his. Considering this is pretty much dead even, not seeing a single reason why Warne can be considered better than Viv just reveals myopia and closed-mindedness. Literally every people say about Viv's intangibles/aura applies to Warne too.
