Lara and Ambrose. They are the same team. And they don't suck against Australia.

Yeah but I rate roads runs as lesser, and Viv on any high bounce, uneven bounce, greentop or seamy surface.
on a simpler level, Viv is better against fast bowling and Lara against spin, and you fundamentally see more pacers post-war, so Viv wins.

I was checking their overall records.
Criteria : 3+ Tests.
Viv - Averages 40+ against everywhere and everyone
Ambrose - Averages 27.8 against Pak(14 Tests) and 38.3 against India(9 Tests).
Lara - Averages 34 against India(17 Tests). Averages 36.9 in NZ(7 Tests).
Donald - Averages 31 against Australia(14 Tests). Averages 28.4 in Australia(7 Tests).

WSC or not, no potential weakness in Viv’s record
I know it is crude but he is one of the few batsmen to average 40+ against everyone and everywhere.

Aus was the ultimate challenge home and away in the 90s and 2000s. Donald was below par in 5/6 series against them. Ambrose was awesome.
India away from home wasn't that challenge and Lara and Ambrose poor record is more of bogie team effect (though Lara didn't like facing Harbi and Kumble).
Viv is better than Lara but I go with the bowler advantage.

Better against spin but Viv is better against pace by a larger margin imo.
