other than 2018 where he has that England tour and THAT South Africa tour, I honestly don't find his career impressive, amazing player between 2016-19 though.

2014 BGT was post the 2014 England debacle. After thar(with the exception of the 2017 BGT), Kohli was pretty consistently brilliant in tests till 2020

2015 Sri Lanka series and the Freedom series (South Africa) was pretty meh but with some of his better innings, I'd say it was the 2016 West Indies series where he found his consistency in test cricket
