VB Cup Reports - Major error almost costs Tasmania.

A major flaw in the Tasmanian communication lines almost cost the Tasmanian team their first win in the Cup. As injured opener and captain, H Midlane, played the game.

After winning the toss and batting, Midlane proceeded to run himself out on the first ball of the innings. At 1-0 off a ball Tassie looks troubled. Thomas and Kaye both went cheap and Tasmania looked down the barrel of their first loss this season, at 3-16.

A couple of steady hands, got Tasmania to 5-132. Midlane, standing at first slip took two catches as Tasmania defeated the Worcs, who were all out for 49.

Miller took 3-9 and scored 45* in the victory.

***** Note i noticed neither changes to the teams of Tasmania and Leicstershire, on Monday arfternoon were implemented for the first round.

Hampshire annihilated by rampant Eagles

The Free State Eagles kicked off their VB Cup campaign in the best possible manner with a crushing defeat of Hampshire at the Rose Bowl.

Andrew Davies was trapped leg before wicket by Santosh Vadeyaraj's first ball, and nothing improved for the hosts from then onwards. The highest stand was 11, between Faisal Iqbal (14) and Saeed bin Nasir (0 - one of the five ducks in the innings).

Hampshire limped to 44/6, but when top scorer Inzamam ul-Haq was brilliantly run out by John Arlott for 18, the final wheels fell off the innings. Graham Maiden, recovering from being creamed for four through the covers off the first ball of the over by the big Pakistani, then took the three remaining wickets in three balls, with Peter Trego edging to Yuvraj Snow, Mark Harrity giving a regulation return catch and Anand Yavigi taking Stuart MacGill's hopelessly miscued slog at mid-on.

Six overs were all that was needed for the visitors to knock off the required runs, Will Jefferson making 11, Snow 12, Arlott 12* and Desvonde Arendse finishing the job with a couple of gloriously timed drives back past the bowler.

Come on Karnataka, bring it - we don't need program errors (9/0, not even Auckland are that bad) to win matches, we do it through skill.

Ok. Auckland lost to Karnataka and I never really expected to win, but I must say that the result was a tad unrealistic.

9 wickets in 9 balls.... yeh.... Kabir Ali 9/0 from 1 over... sure.

This is VC4? The realism confounds.

OK this is ridiculous. Either change the sim or play Aucklands match again, we can't have that!

Unfortunatley VC4 is the only Sim which allows you to play 25 over a side games...
YES it is ridiculous however to keep the VB Cup 25 Overs/Side we have to use it, unless we change the VB Cup to 50 overs but then it defeats the purpose of it...

Mr. P

International Vice-Captain
However I don't think it is fair for people to lose games with results like that.

I agree mate, and if someone can come up with a alternative in the next few days i will look at it...

Warwickshire smash Queensland

A good batting effort saw the team make 196/5 with Howarth socring a timely 68. Astle chipped in 51 and Bell hit a quickfire 23.

In reply Queensland lost wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for 149. Kaneria was the pick of the bowlers taking 4/31.

Daniel Howarth was MOM.

"Hopefully this is the start of a memorable VB Cup campaign."

umm that auckland Karna game really needs to be replayed, that just doesn't work - thats just well rediculous.

on a brighter note :)

Colts Smash Guyana to record first VB cup WIN :):):)
Guyana won the toss and elected to bat on a good looking wicket with a little turn. New Recruit Chopra got them off to an ideal start hitting a boundaries off the first over, Hettarachchi opened the bowling in an unusual move but it payed off with Adamson removed from his first ball, than Sarwan in his second over. Hills and chopra than batted well putting on 65 in quick time before Sullivan removed chopra, following up quickly with the wicket 2 balls later of McKenzie. Klusener continued to cop alot from Francis, who hit 21 from just 12 balls to save a little face for the Guyanans before Hettarachchi was brought back on wrapping up the tail in quick time removing Francis, Giles,Mackenzie and Ganesh on consecttive deliveries in the first colts hattrick. Daly finished the innings getting lawson caught behind. Guyana all out for 132. Hettarachchi taking an incedible 7/22

Our innings started in remarkably similar fashion to the Guyana Innings with Madanagopal going for a golden duck. rookies Guneratne and Liyanage didn't last long either. Sharath was than Caught by sarwan off the bowling of Hills to leave us staring down the barrel of another VB cup defeat at 4/38. Anderson and Klusener combined well however to power us towards victory, Klusener Hittting 55 (36) before being caught. Payne than came in and was able to hold down an end with some excelent bowling before Anderson hit the winning runs ending up with 40(35).

Manager age_master said after the game "Im very happy with that performance and our first VB cup victory, we are now even with South Australia in terms of VB cup victories i think. it was a great team performance, twince Guyana had us on the ropes and we were able to get ourselves out of trouble, hettarachchi bowled brilliantly and is looking for a huge season. Klusener and Anderson than combines brilliantly with that bat to ensure the win. hopefully this will set us up for many more VB cup victories"

I hate Freestate pie chucker bowlers !!

my world class lineup should have done more than that.. i question the board to look for match fixing as i feel neil pickup paid the groundsmen to put in craters in my ground which werent there.. and to make matters worse.. i saw his team huddle close to the pitch.. probably making more craters..

This is shocking..

Ideally I would like it to be replayed (so that I can be whipped fairly ;)), but it's not that big of a deal. If Blewy decides to let it stand as it its, I understand. I'm not going to throw a tantrun or anything, but I just hope that those won't depreciate my players' averages at the end of the season.

VB cup doesn't effect averages, though the NRR might effect your chances of gettong through to the next round..

and just a note Free state actually have a very good OD team for those who dont know, dont underestimate them

A 2 wicket win to ND against Glamorgan in the first round of the VB Cup.

A more detailed report will be forthcoming when Eyes_Only has a good look at the scorecard

Well, I got 49 all-out. My start to the season is pretty perplexing, I know my one day team isn't the strongest, but I reckon it is better than what I had last year when I managed to come third in Div 3. Oh well.

Well, Somerset continued their appalling start to the season by going down to WA by...a lot.

Although this weeks results were ridiculous and I don't count them as real results.

WRT The Auckland-Karnataka NRR

It's not just going to affect those two, it's going to affect the rest of us who are trying to qualify from that group.

I say replay :)

boys i agree that the results are crappy but that is vc4

the only option i can think of is to change it to 50 overs and blewy give me the sim and keep it going that way but the vb cup was meant to be 25 over slog matches...........

Slats4ever

I got a solution....
Just ring all the players up or contact them in real life and get the real players to go play the game.
