Kent strolled to an easy 23 run victory in the VB Cup match against a strong Lancashire side at Canterbury.

Kent elected to bat on a fine looking pitch and made the Lancashire bolwers suffer early on, an opening stand of 66 by A.Flower and B.Allen set the pace of the innings, However A.Flower was out of sorts as he felt the effects of a recent cold but still gave able support to Allen who hit a super 66 from just 44 balls. The only major concern was that the other batsman all failed and it was again left to the bowlers to dig the side out of trouble. G.Batty again was the star with a aggresive 41 from just 29 balls. N.Smith also chipped in with 29 from 23 deliveries.

Kent batted out their full amount of overs and scored at a blistering pace of 7.4 an over, considering the regular falling of wickets ended up with a more than respectable score of 185/5. Schofield was the standout of the Lancashire bowling taking fine match figures of 5 - 0 - 21 - 2

In reply Lancashire were never really in the game although Schiller 54 (62) and J.Madanagopal 47 (33) looked in good touch. The visitors falling 23 runs short at 165/5. M.Saggers 4 - 0 - 21 - 2 and M.McCague 4 - 1 - 20 - 1 were the main standouts with the ball, however a super bowl spell of 4 overs between Marsh and Smith going for only 17 runs in the middle of the innings when Lancashire were looking to push on ment that Kent would always be favourites to come out on top.

Karnataka tame the Mumbai Lions

Karnataka elected to bat in the tense game. They did not get off to a good start and lost wickets at regular intervals.J Troughton made the highest score of 22 as Karnataka were bundled out for just 111.There was impressive bowling performance from the Mumbai bowlers in particular MJ Sigera(4/28) and allrounder R Irani(4/26).

With the batting line up which the Mumbai had it was going to be difficult to contain them. But G Richards bowled his heart out and Mumbai were 2/0 in the first over.T Darden the prolific batsman of the season getting out for a duck and a very hyped S Tendulkar also falling for a duck. Now Karnataka got the upper hand on the match and did not let it go.They got wickets regularly and A Muzundar was the highest scorer with 38.

A Jones once again showed why his manager has so much faith on him.He got the price wicket of the set batsman A Muzundar and a hattrick in the end. When the score was on 82/7 he got R Irani for 1 and then got both Sigera and Hettiarachchi for duck of the first bowl respectively.Mumbai were bunbled out for just 82 and Karnataka won the match by 29 runs and appropriately A Jones was once again named the man of the match for his brilliant 4/8.

Karnataka manager revealed that the wicket of T Darden was very important as he is that sort of a player who can just take the game away from anyone.Karnataka manager also praised A Jones for his fine display and was confident that he will continue with it.

LANCASHIRE v Kent

Kent batted first and piled on a formidable 185/5, a scoring rate of 7.4 per over.
B.Allen (66) held the top order together while G.Batty (41no) and N.Smith (29no) maintained the momentum after their side was precariously placed at 122/5.
Of the Lancashire bowlers, C.Schofield (5-0-21-2) and M.Mendis (5-1-26-1) stood out while A.Barnes, D.Ganesh and M.Smethurst were far too expensive.

It was always going to be an uphill battle for the Lancashire lads chasing such a mammoth score, but to their credit they got fairly close at 162/5.
A.Schiller (54) and J.Modanagopal (47) were the most successful batsmen whilst M.McCague (4-1-20-1) and M.Saggers (4-0-22-2) were the most impressive of the bowlers.

Lancashire manager GrahamB congratulated Kent on their fine victory and wished them well in the semifinals to come. He said that Lancashire would now turn their full attention to avoiding relegation in the FC and OD competitions.

Just remember who gave you the tip on picking up Batty in the draft!:saint:
Did you???

I thought that I found him... in my 5th round, just he was about the best left....

But hey if you did Thanks

It's nice to see the most traveled player in WCC D.Marsh, rejected to Kent by a few managers, eventualy completed a deal from Lancs about 6 teams later, has also been a star... If Lancs whant to trade I Want first refusal!!!!!

The Qld side was expected to have a comfortable win over Leicestershire in the VB Cup. It did not turn out that way. Leics batted first and were rolled for 49. Bichel 3/26, Kaspar 2/16 and Hopes 2/0 did the damage. Wright top scored with 19.

The chase did not go to plan and Qld lost 9 wickets before victory was achieved. Jimmy Maher top scored with 14 and the last pair of Hopes and Sheriyar made the 9 runs required when brought together.

A lucky win on a trecherous pitch.
