International Vice-Captain
Province came to the friendly tournament hoping to play 3 matches and get there players in some form.
Game 1 Versus Glamorgan
Glamorgan's innings was an impressive affair. Saurav Ganguly made the most of some wayward bowling to compile a brilliant 99 off 109, with support all of the Glamorgan batting line up throughout his innings. Kyle Hogg was inspirational with the ball as he continues to be the rookie of the season taking 3/41 off his 10 overs.
Province were chasing 270 to win, and it was always going to be hard. The top order of Province looked shakey with Astle Rickman and Irani all going before 72. The chips were down for Province however Rabbi Llewellyn then took control of the game. Llewellyn made a wonderful 151 not out off just 154 balls to show the rest of the community that he had arrived. Laxman's supportive role at the other end was overshadowed as he cruised to 64. The game however was not one when Laxman was dismissed, quick runs still had to be got at a run a ball. McKenzie was impressive in scoring 20 off 8 to guide the side home with 3 overs to go.
A wonderful win, highlighted by a superb knock by Llewellyn.
Game 2 Versus Western Australia
Western Australia is a side Province has never had much success against, neither has Slats4ever. However a positive mood in the camp reflected in their on field proficiency. In a clinical display, with spear head Brett Lee leading the charge with 4/34 WA were dismissed for 227, with only Keegan shining with 122.
Province's batting display was a contrast to their one in the first game. The innings was rocked by 3 run outs, and a lot of small scores under 20. It took an awesome display by VVS Laxman who compiled 113 off 104 to get Province home in a nailbiter by one wicket. WA looked to have the match wrapped up until Lee joined Laxman and together having a 70 run partnership.
Final Versus Surrey
Province went into their first ever final feeling quietly confident of defeating Surrey.
Surrey's batting quickly dispelled any signs of nerves on their behalf as Mane and then Thorpe set about compiling a massive score. at 5-260 and with overs in hand anything was possible, however a spirited bowling attempt saw the lower order struggle and surrey be all out for 321.
Province's response needed something special and when Llewellyn went for 0 it appeared as if all was lost. The rest of the batting looked promising but no one went on to create history, with the WA bowlers keeping there total safe with tight enough bowling.
Surrey restricted Province to 262, enough to give them the Friendly trophy.
