Umpire Venkat to retire !!

Venkat will stand down from the elite panel after the 2nd test between Australia and Sri Lanka in Kandy (starting March 16) after a 11 year stint.

It was about time. Age was catching up with him. Of late He has been responsible for some shocking and outrageous decisions. Now can we force Ashoka De Silva to retire as well ? How old is he ?

As much as I like Venkat, I think the time is right for him to retire....It's still a shock though....

Venkat took a sensible decision. He knew his standards were dropping and so took a correct decision.

He's already on the élite panel, I think. He umpired four of England's Tests in Bangladesh & Sri Lanka.

And he's 35.

Can't really say I'm sorry to see Venkat go......too many incorrect decisions for mine over a period of time. Well done all the same though, even to become an umpire at the highest level is a hell of an achievment.

What about Simon Taufel, he would be a candidate wouldn't he, or is he already on the elite panel?

Simon is already on the Elite Panel....Has been for just over a year....

He was elevated last year after his awesome World Cup performance and is the youngest on the Panel.
