It’s Bill Johnston tbh but his career was so war-shortened and the other guys in the late 40/ and early 50s sides so good that he’s almost completely overshadowed and unrecognised

He is the most underrated bowler in the history of the game imo

John Lever on the other hand. Great record for a seamer in India. Decent record in Australia. Poor record in England. Still should have had more Tests, IMO.

Kenneth Viljoen

International Regular
It's too early for Marco Jansen to be there , but he definitely has the potential to be great , also Mohammad Amir deserves a mention what happened there was just plain sad , so much freaking potential down the drain .

Probably Johnston. But didn't he also bowl spin if I'm not mistaken??
He got a very bad knee injury while bowling, and thus had to switch from mostly pace to basically just spin.

But the thing is, even of the pace bowling I've seen of his, it just looks weird. He bounds in off a shortish "run" and sort of flings it. If he's getting genuine fast medium pace off of that, then he must be a real natural talent, with shoulder muscles/joint strength of a Wasim Akram. He was also known to be rather uncoordinated, and so it doesn't surprise me that he would get injured in the act of bowling, with the combination of bizzare herky action, impressive power in the last business stride of delivery, and probably lack of knowledge of the kinesthetic nightmare that he was putting his body through with that.

Here's an example. He was supposed to be a quick bowler too mind. I can't imagine any pace bowling coach telling a young quick to rock and twist so heavily on his right leg on that delivery stride, but I guess it worked for him for a while.

Edit: At 1:59, look at where his right foot toes are pointed, straight in the direction of the non-striker!
