The Worst Debuts

Shane Warne?
Yeah, IIRC, Warney got belted around the park by the Indians and was dropped.

Chris Matthews was an Australian quick from the late 80s who had a short, forgettable Test career. IIRC, he was too carried away with the pace and bounce of the WACA Ground and bowled really badly.

Scott Muller is also a debutant who comes to mind who had a forgettable time.

He actually did okay in the two Tests he played. However, it was pretty obvious he wasn't good enough to be a regular Test player.

Nope; played the next Test in Adelaide, was spanked by Azharuddin and THEN was dropped for the match in Perth. :)

Worst debut, Wayne Phillips. No, not the South Australian one (he's a God; no arguments!), the Victorian one;

In his one-and-ony Test, his first two scoring shots were big nicks through slips to the 3rd man fence. He was in good form before that; don't know what happened!

SAEED ANWAR can some one dig up his first few innings ,im sure he had one of the worst starts

It is suprising how well debutants go in international cricket. They ussually play their first match really well and then drop off after then! That seems to be the case apart from people like Hussey!

A couple of my personal favourites:

Legend has it that Dr. Roy Park's wife missed his entire test career because she dropped her knitting. Park was dismissed first ball in his only test innings as his wife bent down to pick up her knitting!

Jack MacBryan is probably the unluckiest test cricketer ever. In his only test for England in 1924 only 66.5 overs were possible due to rain. He is the ONLY test cricketer to have never batted, bowled or taken the field in his entire test career!

Quite an odd match due to the fact New Zealand actually fielded a full strength bowling line up.
Plus Alan Mullaly was batting at #9 :blink:

I remember when he was at the height of his batting popularity for all those ducks in Australia in the late 90's and then came out and hit about 20 runs.

Surely Tuffnell and Giddens aren't worse at batting than Mulally overall though =/
