ACT VERSUS JAMAICA

ACT hosted jamaica in the first round of 4 day friendlies. ACT won the toss and not surprisingly elected to bat.
Jeffrey and Dawn made a good start getting the score to 68 before Dawn fell to what could only be described as an appauling umpiring decision. Jeffrey kept the score racing along, bringing up his hundred in fine fashion with a 6 over backward point. Solid innings from most of the middle order batsmen kept the score going upwards. Williams (41) and Southam (44) should have made more out of their starts and both will be disapointed with the way they got out. Its hard to blame anyone except for the umpires for Maxwells wicket. The umpires have seemed to have forgotten that if you hit the ball you cant get out LBW.
ACT finally finished their innings with 464 runs on the board and in the box seat.
The Jamaican innings started well for the ACT taking a wicket off the first ball, Samuels caught behind, unfortunately the umpire didnt agree and Samules was left a couple of hundred dollars poorer and his wicket was still in tact. Nothing could save him when he was finally out 12 overs later, caught by Jeffrey in the gully.
For batting by the lads from the West Indies saw them all out for a pathetic 182.
Simon Mann taking a brilliant 6 wicket haul.
The second innings was much of the same, poor umpiring, poor batting and brilliant fielding.
262 was all jamaica could manager and they were going home without a second crack at the ACT boys.
Comets won by an innings and 20 runs, captain david jeffrey taking man of the match honours.
Comets coach Simon Fitzsimmons was unavailable for comment after the match after left early to fly to melbourne to watch girl friend tennis player daniela hantuchova play in the Australian open womens final.

Kent hosted Victoria at the picturesque St Lawrence Ground, in Canterbury. The captains, Waugh and Elliot meet in the middle, the Vics won the toss, and didn’t hesitate to bat first, on what appear to be a road.

Skipper Matty Elliot along with Keeper Kumar Sangakarra got the bushrangers off to another great start. Sangakarra belting McCague out of the attack early on, and shattering the fellows poor confidence, so much Captain Waugh was forced to bowl 6 overs. With a formidable 130 run opening stand, and at one stage been one wicket down and 200 runs on the board, the bushrangers pushed for late runs, and last cheap wickets. The target set was 243, from the allotted 50 overs, and even with Allen and Waugh it good form it was going to take some getting.

Danny Marsh, sent up the order to “pinch hit” got the ball rolling with a fiery 28 (34). Allen, moved down to three could only add 1 to the total, before he was caught behind from the bowling of Hewitt, allegedly the only ball he pitched outside off stump.

At four wickets down for 67, the game was there to be won by Victoria. But ‘Tugga’ Waugh and Smith were able to build a respectable partnership, and push the total up to 128, before “The Freak” Ian Harvey, had Waugh caught in the deep by Lewis. Harvey would later complete a miracle caught and bowled, to remove Hutton, in the last 5 overs.

Smith continued to push the ball around, but once Waugh had returned to the dressing room, the innings lost momentum, and the Bushrangers ran out Winners by 28 runs.

Kumar Sangakarra man of the match with 3 catches and 98 runs from 139 balls. Asked after the match how he was enjoying this season with Victoria, Kumar replied: “I love it here at the bushrangers, I can make runs, and play my natural game, and not have to worry about getting out, as we have plenty of batting.”

This win leaves Victoria probably 3rd on the table, and they can hopefully get over the line against Warwickshire, and perhaps edge out Surrey and Kent for promotion.

Yorkshire One Day Win

Well its taken almost the entire season to get a one day win under their belts but they did it and did it well
4 batsmen racking up 50s and then bowling TN out for 65 great effort.
After a shocking season relegation looks likely in the one dayers but looks like we saved it in four dayers.
UM the manager was happy but knew that it was a shocking season and reports that top bowler Hoggard is moving along with some top line players such as Vaughan and Hamilton which cannot be confirmed Yorkshire are looking at next season for a bit of confidence and possibly a shot at the title(Yeah i know im laughing too)

Qld took on Mumbai in what originally was a highly anticipated clash. The forfeit by Mumbai took the gloss off a fine win to Qld.

The highly sought after Andy Bichel made early in roads removing Kumar and Tendulkar to have Mumbai at 2/8. The momentum the swung to Mumbai as they amassed a quality total of 7/271 with Muzumdar 79, Samaraweera 49 and Paranjpe 45* the mainstays.

Qld started the run chase well with Maher and Hayden putting on 152 for the 1st wicket. The runs were made in the 43rd over as Hayden 90 and maher 78 starred.

With Lancashire beating WA this leaves Qld alone on top of the one day table with one match to go.

nibbs

International Captain
The highly built up game game between Surrey and Warwickshire was played this morning, with Warwickshire batting first.

Openers Jayasuriya and Fernando got things off to a cracker start. Putting on 80 in good time. Jayasuriya played an excellent knock making 78 off only 82 balls. After this wicket though Warwickshire struggled and failed to get any partnerships going at all. Again the top to middle order failed, with only another reasonable from big Ashley Giles (24 off 40), able to help Warwickshire past the 200 mark. Warwickshire were bowled out in the 46th over for 201.

In reply Surrey made an awful start. Mane out for a duck, Brown and Ward, were soon to follow. With the score at 47/3 the game was Warwickshires for the taking, however the game with about to a take the first of many turns. Thorpe was joined by Tredwell in the middle and the pair took to the Warwickshire attack, putting on a solid 82, and carrying the score onto 129/3. Put the match was thrown back into life as Mascerenhas was came on and destroyed Surrey middle order. From 129/3, Surrey had slumped to 141/7. Again the match was within Warwickshires reach. Victory seamed possible. But Surrey with a bit of luck saw their way through safely, as Bicknell and Crow added an unbeaten 62 for the win.

A big question mark as arisen after the game for Warwickshire. Why did the M.Bulbeck not bowl? He is in the side for that very purpose. If only he had of bowled 9 overs and Saunders and Jayasuriya none. Perhaps it would of been a different story. The Warwickshire pitch is built for pace bowlers, so this is mystery. If only he had of bowled :( Oh well...

Western Province Win

New Western Province Captain Jacques Kallis appeared over the moon as he was interviewed first by Tony Grieg, Western Province were batting. This was billed as a highlight game in the season, as it would test just how mum Slats4ever knew his former Auckland side.
Gary Kirsten showed some of the form which made him one of the most feared batsman in the 90's in compiling 98 (89). He was well supported throughout the innings by James, Gibbs and Dawson, all finding scores in the 20's. The innings however hadn't satisfied Slats4ever yet, as the 50th over neared. However Graeme Smith steadied one end making 51 (73) whilst Kallis 26 (15) and Jacobs were able to help the side to a good total of 5-279. Allan Donald was the pick of the bowlers with 10 overs, 4 MAIDENS, 1-29.

Auckland got off to a horrible start losing Anderson and Harris for 0 and 3 respectively (Slat's 4ever later was heard telling the new manager that Harris belongs down the order and will score far more runs :) . However Matthew Horne and Nichol then helped the side stabilise making 67 and 54, in addition to a wonderful upper order innings from G Lloyd who made 125 off 130. The game was then set in for a tight finish however a steady flow of wickets, and none of the batsman really finding the fence, victory was achieved for the home side, and a relieved Slats4ever realised he'd made the right choice in coming. Pick of the bowlers being A Dawson with 3-67 from 10.
A good win by 7 runs which will keep Western Province from the bottom, well done lads.

I think that's very unlikely since Kent and Surrey play each other in the last round - what a game that'll be!

LANCASHIRE v WA

This game was crucial to both sides.
A Lancashire win would steer them clear of the bottom three spots and keep them in title contention.
A win to WA would see them retain top equal spot.

WA batted first, but quickly got into big trouble as they collapsed to 64/5 with only the soon to retire G.Hick holding firm. Sensational OD bowler C.Schofield (26 wkts at 9) did most of the damage as he picked up three of these wickets. Schofield is available for trade too!
Hick and D.Ostler (11) put together 44 for the sixth wicket before two quick wickets fell to have WA in serious trouble at 118/7.
Hick then found an ally in N.Carter (23) to add some respectability to the total with a 51 partnership for the eighth wicket.
However, once Carter departed at 169/8, it was left to Hick to try and smash a few more before the innings ended at 189 all out in the 45th over. Hick ended unbeaten on 91no.
Lancashire bowlers worthy of mention were C.Schofield (9-3-40-5), A.Dale (8-1-38-2) and M.Pushpakumara (9-3-17-1)

Lancashire lost star youngster A.Schiller early, but A.Swann (26) and M.Ramprakash (55) got the innings on the right track.
At 87/3, the game could still have gone either way, but J.Modanagopal (64no from 61 balls) posted his best knock of the season to see Lancashire through to a five wicket victory in the 45th over and send the home fans into raptures.
For WA, K.Harvey picked up three wickets, but conceded 66 runs in doing so. N.Carter (10-3-34-1), T.Kumaran (8-2-22-1) and B.Williams (7-1-23-0) were much tighter despite having less success in wicket terms.

WA - 189 (G.Hick-91no, C.Schofield-5/40)
Lancashire – 193/5 (J.Modanagopal-64no, M.Ramprakash-55, K.Harvey-3/66)

C.Schofield was named man of the match ahead of G.Hick.

The first division table is now extremely interesting with just the one round to go:
Queensland – 10
SA - 8
WA - 8
Lancashire - 8
Mumbai - 6
NSW - 6
Yorkshire - 2
Tamil Nadu - 0

Pairings for the final round see QLD at home to Yorks, WA at home to SA, NSW at home to Lancs and Mumbai at home to TN.

Is it the bottom two or bottom three that are being relegated? If it’s the bottom three, the game between NSW and Lancashire will be doubly crucial!

U19 Vice-Captain
Karnataka Vs Canterbury

The clouds were looking very ominous and it was a very good wicket to bowl first as there was moisture in the pitch due to overnight rain.Karnataka captain won the toss and had no hesitation to bowl first.Canterbury wickets fell at regular interval and there was no patnership of more than 50.The top scorer made just 26.MA Khan did a fine job taking 4/40 in 7 overs.JO Troughton took 3/13 in 5 overs and J Moss completed it with 2/26 of 5.Canterbury were bundled out for 111 in just 25 overs.

When Karnataka came out to bat 2 quick wickets fell and the score was 2/16.N Round and T Naidu got in a small patnership before the latter got out for 23.But N Round kept it going and made 52*(60) and saw Karnataka home.

With one round to go Karnataka are behind Colts in the league. If only Colts loses there next match and Karnataka win they have a chance of winning the league.

Bottom 3, but that game isn't really as big as the Surrey-Kent game, because QLD will beat Yorkshire and win the league!

As for Schofield, well, he may not be available for long...
