Sunil Gavaskar vs Graham Gooch

Who was the better test batsman against high quality bowling?

Valid point.

Also depends on where it is. Fast pitches vs pace Gooch, slower pitches Sunny no doubt.

Similarly spin is easily Gavaskar.

But how much quality spin was there in the '80's?

Anyways, overall Sunny.

How is Lara even remotely related to this conversation?

@Slifer has answered this multiple times and if you want to bring in Lara, how did Sachin do vs the same opposition? See how that works, and we keep going down the rabbit hole.

Lara scored a 97 vs Pakistan before a freak dismissal and genuinely struggled vs Donald. He also had his triumphs vs McWarne and dominated Murali in SL.

What's the point?

No one is calling Gavaskar anything less than great.
