Stylish Elements for Cricketers that Didn't Help Them

What were the exciting or stylish parts of cricketers' game play that actually looking back were detrimental to their cricket?

I always think of Shoaib Akthars super long runup. It was exhilarating to watch but ultimately as Bob Woolmer pointed out, a waste of energy.

Walsh must have had the longest run up. I think he might have cut it back at some point, but it used to start pretty much at the boundary!

Some of those west indies cricketers had a real rhythm to the run up though.

Shoaib could produce the same pace from a shorter runup though. He just didn't want to, comparing himself to a plane taking off on a runway.

It's extremely presumptuous to think that someone at Lara's level would have been even better if he changed something that was pretty fundamental to his play

How so? It helped him trigger his attacking strokes against the non express bowlers. I don't think it was quite as pronounced against the quickest ones.
Wasn't it? I recall it was one of the reasons he would be jumping when playing strikes against the faster pacers. High backlift, body like a spring and then hit, worked great for the rest though.

Any chance some of the kilo of gold chain some bowlers wear around their neck whilst bowling may slow them down on the 5th day of a Test?

I mean where to start with Maxwell. His effort in the field and while bowling shows how much winning means to him, how its unfair to call him uncommitted or anything like that

But his shot selection while batting, the fact he's allergic to using a bit more discipline re hitting balls on the ground, you name it. He had the raw ingredients to be the next Ponting, so skilled is he when he pulls off what hes going for. But boredom, impatience and im guessing ADHD has held him back.
