Stumped!

Some lower order tail wagging along with Katz doing his finishing role well... along with Marx and Mthombeni adding some important lower order runs.

Pressure on fielders as they drop Katz...

And a couple of quick wickets by Payne ends it in the 40th over.

MTO's did not quite reach the 200 but a formidable score nonetheless. Best batting performance for awhile. Particularly from the lower order.

Need a couple of wickets here... dropped two already, and Buckland and McGill taking the game away here if not careful.

Viljoen was really the only consistent threat with the ball, very good stuff from him.

Three wicket win for Schmaltzberg with nine balls to spare. Reid dropping a Steenkamp slash off Tyagi the real turning moment, Samaranayake then really didn't have any chance to keep his nerve.

MTO: Reid 2, Farhat 3, Kock (c) 6, Tyagi 5, Pankharia 4, Katz 9, Marx 6, Mthombeni (wk) 7, Burger 3, Viljoen 9, Samaranayake 2

Dynamo: Buckland (wk) 9, Kurusumuttu 4, Holding 1, McGill 7, Yengwayo 6, Steenkamp 8, Payne 6, Wessel 5, Ndlovu 7, Lickley (c) 7, Dean 5

Sent a challenge to @Marcuss for Tuesday.

@Magrat Garlick good game. Well played.

Disappointed with Burger today, normally my most consistent line and length bowler. Started really poorly and never recovered. Tyagi bowled some really good spells with no luck. Ultimately fielding is just losing me to many games; 7 drops, 2 by wicket keeper, is just to many to win games.

Played a friendly OD against GG CC last night.

GG CC batted first and amassed 304/8 with the newest acquisition for the GG’s, Jayraj D Souza coming in at number 5 and spanking an unbeaten 87 off 81 balls (6x4; 2x6) and Bram Human with 84 off 70 balls (12x4; 1x6).
Bowling for Moooo, Gulshan Giridhar picked up 2 for 57 off his 10 overs, Left arm pacer Andrew Short supported him with 2 for 67 (10), McCormack, Henton, and Toogood with a wicket apiece.

Replying to that fairly huge score, Moooo’s batsmen just were not up to the task of chasing down this total. There lot of starts but no one playing that significant innings. The highest score was 30 off the bat of Michael Winton.
Sebastian Plaatjes picked up 4/43; Christo Theron 2/25; Roger Attlee 2/39; D Souza and Cornelius Human picking up 1 wicket each.

Fell short by 110 runs.

CW Championship Season 2/3

@cnerd123 hope this doesn't feel like an overrule, merely meant as a proposal.
I appreciate the effort you've put into that, and it's a nice idea. But I have 2 issues:

a) It's a lot of effort. It might put some people off. It also means that the league will suffer if RL gets too busy for any of us.

What I really like about the Stumped in-built friendly competition system is that it auto generates the fixtures and automatically maintains the points table. Those are the two most important jobs. Sometimes players can't arrange matches (which will definitely happen over the course of a season), and if the league admins get busy then everything will freeze (*cough* CWPL *cough*). An automated system means the league can function no matter what.

On top of that, the very specific rules are time consuming for both setting orders and whoever has to check/enforce the rule. It will also lead to a lot of re-matches, a lot of disputes over the rule, and some teams might just drop out because they can't spare the time.

b) The Friendly Comp I've made on Stumped will already be going ahead no matter what. I can't delete it. So those fixtures are set to appear on people's schedules, even if we adopt another format.

I think a long season of Dev cricket will actually be very competitive. The skill gaps are much smaller, and buying a 20/21 year old player just to play in the CWC is pretty cheap. Most people's default XIs will be designed to optimise IGT rather than optimise match performance, which means more room for upsets when top sides can't set orders. And also for sentimental value - you're always more attached to your up-and-coming prospects than your grizzled jaded veterans counting out the seasons left till they can retire and get a cushy groundsman's job.

Good points - although none of them insurmountable - I ran a battrick friendly comp here 10 years ago basically through nagging, and the fact that Stumped has so many friendly dates means it's easy to catch up a missed match. Plus if we open the Google doc to the contestants they can help with keeping score.

Further, to take the Canada comp we're both in as example, I stopped caring after about 5 matches cos it's such an imbalanced comp. I don't care if I end 12th or 18th in it and the stats are messed up (eg mnimum 37 innings)

Could you at least send a message to Tonks or some other stumped mod asking if it's possible to delete the comp you already set up? Cos I know I'm not super enthused about 26 DEV games leading to finishing something between 3rd and 6th.

Good match with @JOJOXI overnight. The middle order of Lever, Jennings and Tweddle seemed to have put up a competitive score, unfortunately JOJO's bowlers were a little too wayward in the wind and Kotze could feast. MOM with a counterpunching 63 not out.

I actually quite like the CCCT20! Lots of games against a wide range of opponents, has really helped sharpen T20 strategies for both teams. I actually like long leagues in general, and I'm sure we can find a way to make the final CWC 3 standings meaningful. Maybe the top 6 teams play for the Cup and bottom 6 play for the Plate? Top 2 teams direct entry to semi-finals, with 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5 for the other two semi final spots. These games will have to be arranged on our own outside after the CWC3 runs its course.

I can message the mods/admins about the CWC3, but I tried that for the earlier CWC (trying to get Winton CC into Season 1) and they didn't reply to me then.

I don't mind a shorter league, or one with special rules to even the playing field, but it's too much effort for me to run and take part in. I'll definitely forget or mess up orders at some point. However don't let that stop you from running your own side competition for those that are interested. CWC games only happen on Saturdays, you still have Tuesday and Thursday to run a separate shorter league with specific rules to encourage competitiveness. I'll join it as well.

I think for future editions we can try to run something outside of the Stumped friendly comp system if there are enough volunteers interested to manage the admin work. For now everyone's still new. Let's see if anyone wants to help with admin for the CWC3 to start - we need match reports and stats tracking (incase it gets buggy like in CCCT20).

Does make sense! I think it might be better just to have some kind of ladder like in Elo-based games for the newcomers then. :)

I'm definitely not gonna make match reports for all the games though, sorry :p At best copying and pasting scorecards.
