Steve Prefontaine, a cult figure of the 1970s and now 21th Century. This man had the gift and was Americas greatest ever middle distance runner. Prior to his death he was unbeatable and by god he would have won in Montreal.

There's a couple of reasonable films about the life of 'Pre' - 'Prefontaine' which is OK and 'Without Limits' which is excellent.

As you say, he was a legend.

"Heros get remembered, but legends never die." Clearly Pre is a legend and he changed the world of middle distance runner for ever. By god, he would have won in Montreal.

How many people at this forum enjoy their Nike trainers or strolling around in a Nike shirt? Well its well worth noting, that if it wasn't for Pre, Nike might never have got off the ground and became the company it is today. He was the first athlete they signed up, and because he was such an icon, he ensured Nike got off the ground because people wanted to be just like Pre.

Go Pre!
