So i assume he is recovering from that sickening injury he got in Brisbane last year, but do you reckon he will be bowling genuinly quick? 90+ mph like he used to, or do you think he is consigned to being a county medium fast for the rest of his career?

After seeing the injury live, i would say the second option, unfortunatly :( I really hope i am wrong!

I think you need to wait and see, basically two factors will be..

1/ When he gets back to bowling if the keen can hold up with the pressures, it has to have been weakened to some extent.

2/ The mental side of things, will S.Jones return like nothing happened and come roaring in or will he hold back while bolwing and just go through the motions to reduce the strane?

On a semi +, S.Jones always had a wippy action that generated all pace from the quick arm and shoulder (simalar to C.White if I remember right) so maybe his pace wont be effected as much.

I hope he makes it back - he was an exciting prospect (I don't reckon he bowled anywhere near his full potential).

If he does, I'd like to meet his surgeon. 4 months after knee surgery, I'm still struggling to walk (although I am tenpin bowling again a bit).

I think his bowling action is also going to cause long term problems.

well Shane Bond is bound to have problems, but he is now 28 while Jones is only around 23 isn't he? so potentially Jones could have his cricket career cut short considerably.

It'd be extremely unfortunate if he wasn't to bowl as quick as he can in his youth .

But afterwards as Jonesy gets older and wiser, he will realise that accuracy, and lateral movement is more lethal than sheer pace, but obviously that will take experience and extreme natural talent to develop accuracy like McGrath or swing like Wasim Akram.

So for now, the rest of England better hope he can bowl as quick and as best he can.

Wow, James Anderson and Simon Jones opening the bowling for England, pretty cool eh?
