Scott Boland

Has the best bowling average of all the Aussie bowlers with 20.42. Admittedly 12 tests is quite a small sample size, however 9 of these have been against India and England who have probably the best two batting line ups(excluding Australia) Yet he only gets selected when one of the regular pace bowlers is injured. I think the Aussie selectors have an "If it aint broke dont fix it" policy and none of Cummins, Starc and Hazelwood have been out of form long enough to get dropped, however this means that players like Mike Hussey and Adam Voges end up with short careers that could have been long and very successful given the opportunity.

Voges wasn't particularly good until a season or so before he got into the side. Bad example.

Boland also averages over 130 in away Tests. He's just not quite as good as the other three despite his pretty overall average.

I like the idea of rotating the bowlers more at home, especially when they have little niggles - but that's how Boland is getting these games in the first place.

Mike Hussey played 79 tests and scored over 6000 runs. Not really a short career.

Good bowler yes, but Boland's record is skewed by only being picked in favourable conditions.

Boland is a such a good bowler whose line produces good economy and if there is seam then he's a just as good as the big 3. Trouble is his predictability can make him a target and he can be bazballed on the type of pitches he encountered in England. I think he should be played more often in Australia when he could be used while resting Starc or Haze and we wouldn't miss much.

Sri Lanka has a better batting lineup than India. NZ probably does too.
