Ross was a pretty good batsman imo
He was, but Saeed did almost zero minnow bashing and averages 47 as an opener in 90s, while Taylor bashed Windies of 2013 a bunch when they had an Awful attack (495 @ 247, three tons in three match series) and Zimbabwe, I'll say that's a pretty substantial gap in actual quality of output.

Yeah Anwar was a very good opener and exceptional v spin.

Taylor's average v Australia, South Africa, India, England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka dropped below 40 in September 2016 (less than 9 years after his Test debut) and only got lower from there.

He dominated WI&Bangladesh at home; both of whom didn't travel well at all. Didn't do much against them overseas. Bullying those two at home and Zimbabwe lends his career average a big boost.
