Saeed Anwar retires

Tim

Cricketer Of The Year
Not surprising really..he seemed on the outer with the Pakistan selectors and he was getting on in age.

Probably one of Pakistan's more honest players who spent alot of time in the shadows of the Akrams, Maliks, Ul Haqs etc.

He's been a fantastic player throughout the years, a real entertainer. One of the best opening batsman I have seen.

Pity his career went on a real downwards spiral, after the untimely death of his daughter. Im sure he would've and could've played more.

Sad to see another great player of my generation retire.

Saeed lived in the shadows of nobody. He was a brilliant player, a real treat to watch. IMO he was the best Pakistani batsman of the last 10 years.

A gent by the name of Inzamam Ul haq might have something to say to that.....but otherwise I agree with you, Anwar was a class act and one of the best that Pakistan has produced.

Hats off the Ceefax for their report.

After saying he'd retired the second paragraph read something along the lines of "Anwar, who grew a big beard and turned to religion after the death of his daughter played xx Tests and yyy ODIs"

Then they mentioned he was the holder of the ODI record score.

Nice to see they have their priorities right there!

great player, and a very intelligent player, and its difficult to disagree with the fact that the best Pak batsman since Javed, atleast its pretty close between Inzi and Anwar...

couple of things, what surprises me is his age, he is not that old, 34 years old for a abtsman is not that bad, and he was playing well, I am not sure why everyone kind of assumed that Saeed was done. Miandad played till he was was 39? I think his career should have gone on longer.

And as for him being honest, well not totally, he was involved in match fixing too, according to aamir sohail, who said saeed came to him and said something like, "I cannot get runs anymore because I feel too guilty about betting on my innings". And I dont think Saeed Anwar ever denied it.

Another rather comical note, I dont think there has been a worse fielder in Pakistan cricket history :) maybe he shares this dubious honour woth Imran Khan.

I'd have thought Inzi runs (or rather waddles) him close?

Inzi is an excellent slip fielder, probably one of the best Pakistan has produced (doesnt say anything good about pakistani fielding), hence he cannot be regarded as the worst fielder ever.
