Round 7: One Day Reports

Slats4ever

International Vice-Captain
The Pride of Province

Western Province kept their faint promotion hopes alive after crushing Glamorgan this week.
Exactly a month after the Province board had said Slats4ever's job was on the line if performances didn't improve it appears as if the province side has finally turned the corner.

Sent in to bat on a lively wicket Province were away to a wonderful start. Rabbi Llewellyn and Greg Mail made wonderful work as the new opening pair, asking questions has Mail done enough to secure a spot in the keeper and opening role? The partnership was broken on 70 however Llewellyn kept on going throughout the rest of the innings. Support roles were played by Rickman and McKenzie, however the batting of Llewellyn was superb. He amassed 118 off 124 and the wonderful part time efforts from glamorgan by dale, ganguly and davies, picking up 7 between them. 248 was the total and the night innings was going to be fun.

Glamorgan were in so much early trouble it wasn't funny. Ganguly going first ball to Nelson then Owen Hemp going on the last ball of the over. 2-2. The innings wasn't allowed to gain any momentum as Nelson did it all again ripping the innings apart taking a man of the match 6-26, showing that he is the number 1 bowler in the game.
Province ran out winners by 138 runs in an effort to improve their nrr.

Game in a phrase Slats4ever "Top effort, We came here expecting the win, and we did. We've got the wind in our sails, I want promotion in one form from our boys and we're starting to come together, no one can say it's too late, Llewellyn is the best bat in the game at the moment and Nelson is the best bowler. We have the two best players in WCC so watch out"

ACT win again!

ACT won their 7th straight one day game in division 5. Travelling to Zimbabwe to play Mashonaland is never easy, so a win for the side was fantastic, and it all but wraps up the 1d title.
Mashonaland batted first and lost 3 very quick wickets. Rennie (1), Lambert (3), Burns (4) all struggled against the might of the Comets attack. This was basically the story of the innings, no one managed to do any damage, however T Petal (20), A Petal (16) and Rogers (30) all managed to get starts. It took just 22 overs for Mashonaland to be all out for just 114 runs.
Shane Watson with 4-23 was the best of the bowlers, Ramage and Simon Mann took 2 wickets each.
ACT never had any problems with the chase, with captain Michael Dawn back from injury at the top of the order it was a case of when and not if the Comets would get the runs. Dawn top scored with 87 from just 65 balls to cement his place as one of the leading WCC one day batsmen. Jeffrey (15), Maxwell (7*) and Southam (2*) were the other batsmen to get to the crease.
Comets finished 2-115 in the 20th over.
Cunningham and Viljoen took a wicket each for Mashonaland.
Man of the match went to Michael Dawn

The after match press conference
Press: Now that promotion is almost assured what is the aim for the end of the season?
Fitzsimmons: Basically to give everyone a go, Hogg hasnt been doing much bowling this season, Higgsy hasnt been given a game yet, Tresco hasnt played much, i would like to give everyone a fair go to prove themselves. A lot of these guys know they are playing for a spot in the 10 next season.

Press: What do you make of each players form this season?
Fitzsimmons: Well what can you say, Michael Dawn has been brilliant in the 1 day game. averaging 95 is sensational, Maxwell has been awesome in 4d too. some big scores have really helped the side. Of course Matt Ramage with over 50 wickets and Cade Brown with his batting averages 50+ everyone is contributing. Shane Watson has been a big surprise, im really happy with the way he has gone.

Press: Any big plans for next season?
Fitzsimmons: At this stage we are still working for 4 day promotion. If we can get to division 4 in both forms i am very confident of performing very well. We are hoping to just put in very solid matches over the next couple of season and with the squad we have, the rest should take care of itself.

Press: Thank You
Fitzsimmons: No worries mate.

Tassie a chance to shine in Division 3 next season...

Anwar, Rudolph and Evans have all staked claims as the best bastman of the season for the Tasmanian team with all getting high quality 60's against the third placed Leicestershire.

After getting 3-255 off their 50 overs the game looked safe for the first placed Tassie Pandas. But when Leicestershire crashed big time, having only 36 on the board when Y Odgen (the fourth wicket) fell. The game turned into a cruise...

A noble 85 for Lumb off 76 balls, was the only true shining light for Leicestershire with a 111 run loss which could rule out their promotion chances.

Qld lost again. It seems like it will be a fight with Mumbai for relegation from the division 1 one day comp.

Batting first Qld could only manage 169 with Flintoff getting an unbeaten 37. Five WA bowlers took 2 wickets each.

WA got the runs off 32 overs for a comfortable victory. Flintoff and Trott bowled well but it was too hard a challenge. Martyn got an unbeaten 70.

nsw restore confidence

in a big game last wekend the blues showed they are title contendors with a good win over a strong colts side.

colts batting first struggled and for once the nsw attack got the line and length right and the colts batsmen where struggling.

in a good allround performance seen nsw win by 7 wickets but at one stage where in a bit of bother.

nsw very happy to beat a strong colts outft to see themselves in a 3 way tussle at the top of the table in div 2. fighting to get back into the premier division where they once reigned supremecy.
