Colts edge out Victoria despite amazing performances from Elliot and Harwood

Matthew Elliot held on to an amazing 9 catches as the bushrangers were beaten by the Colts. After winning the toss and Batting the colts got off to a primising start with Sharath and Beasley both batting solidly and scoring just over 2 an over, Sharath became more confident and slashed at a wide one and was caught by elliot. S Liyanage followed suit the next ball and all of a sudden the bushrangers had new life with the colts at 2/45. Beasley and Anderson than worked about rebuilding the innings, mmoving the score along to 127 before Elliot snatched up a loose shot off the bowling of Harvey to remove Beasley. I Guneratne followed the exact pattern of his rookie counterpart getting out the next ball, also being caught by Elliot. Madanagopal hung around a while but never really looked like scoring many, eventually removed by Welsford for 9. Anderson was removed soon after for a well made 79. Payne batted well with the tail pushing the team total up to 232 with 41 from just 51 balls. 232 was not considered enough however and after a blast from their manager the colts fired up and really looked hungry for the win.

The Victorian innings never really took off with all batsmen except Mott struggling to score runs at a descant speed, and he only made 25. All the bowlers bowled well, Lee taking 3/47, Shaw 1/28, Beasley 2/23, Daly 1/24 and Pushpakamara 3/19.

The Colts 2nd innings started solidly again with Sharath and Beasley partnering for the first 90 runs. before Harwook came on and removed both of them along with Liyanage, Guneratne and Anderson in quick succession leaving the colts reeling at 5/124. Madanagopal steddied the innings but no other batsman could hold off the seemingly unstoppable Shane Harwood. Madanagopal ended up with 49* and Harwood the amazing figures of 9/92.

despite the heroics of harwood the Bushrangers still needed a tic over 300 in their last innings and got off to a solid start with Elliot, Mott, Arnberger, stanton and Hodge all getting starts, they all failed to go on with it however and the tail couldn't finish the job ending up 85 runs short. Lee (4/64), Shaw (2/64) and Beasley (3/24) shared the wickets.

Harwood ended up with match figures of 13/151, Elliot took 9 catches and Beasley made 101 runs and took 5/47.

Last years divisio 5 champs, and one of the sides excpected to run had for promotion this yer in division 4 has been soundly beaten by Western Province.

Province won the toss and elected to bat, but ws under pressure all throughout their innings by some great bowling from the ACT attack. Shewag (69) Funston (42) held the top order together, however thins were lookng fragile for Province at 5-163, however some good lower order batting by Schofield (42) and Samaraweera (38). Faisca however took the honours with the ball taking 4 wickets and helping the ACT to restrict Province to 303.

ACT were then looking to enforce the advantage, however Matthie struck with the very first delivery of ACT's innings dismissing Owen for 0. The innings then followed a very similar path to that of Province's with no real momentum being gained as once again the ball got ontop, especially Matthie and Nelson who both broke through with 3 wickets. Jamie Cox was the most effective of the ACT bats scoring 50 before Schofield got him. ACT ended up scrambling to 212, but it could've been worse, had have Boucher and Bulbeck not come together to rectify the ship with a 50 partnership.

The game was slightly in Province's favour, however the ACT bowling attack once again led by Faisca well and truly left the game in the balance with Province being left at 6-125. Out of form Mark Richardson then set about with lower order James Schofield to rectify the ship and they did it in style. The took the score to 7-297 before Schofield was dismissed for 85. Richardson then added more salt to the wound when he combined with Ishmael Nelson for another 50 run stand which put the game to rest. Richardson was eventually left not out for 140 after being tragically struck on the thumb, and had played the innings that everyone at Province knew he was capable of.

ACT never really stood a chance on a seaming wicket as Cox again was the only one who stood up with 66. This time Nelson finally took the reigns as the key bowler taking 5-44, to complete his most impressive match so far as ACT crumbled to at 285 run defeat.

Slats4ever: "We're still comfortably holding onto first place. This was always going to be a tough game but the guys played well and deserved the win. The batting was solid without being superb but the bowling really stood up under the hammer in the first innings. It was great to see Richo return to form, and he'll only miss one game with his finger. THat completes a great first half to the season, and we'll go into the next half as the side to beat."

Warwickshire has lost in the Steve Prefontaine Memorial Trophy to Worcestershire. A terribly sh.t batting effort was to blame as the home side turned to sh.t in one of their worst proformances in WCC ever. Worcestershire won by 5 wickets...

Guyana tensions spill over into fight

Wisden Cricinfo staff

February 2, 2004

Little is going right for Guyana at the moment. On the field they have lost all five matches in the four day copetition of W.C.C., and now it appears that tensions within the side have erupted into an unseemly fight in full view of the public.

The alleged incident occurred at the end of the first day of Guyana's match against Free State last week, a game they lost by 131 runs.

As the Guyana side boarded the coach to take them back to their lodgings, Ramaresh Sarwan, Guyana's vice-captain, reportedly demanded that a team-mate give up his seat. Tempers became frayed and Clinton Perren and Akash Chopra were involved in an altercation. Team-mates broke the fight up and, according to a report in the Daily Telegraph, the mayor of Roseau, Dominica's capital, who is also the Windwards' scorer, threatened the the players with arrest.
