Round 3 4 day Reports

Last minute injuries to both Bishop Matthie and Jono Schofield prior to play on the first day meant that Dave Kenway and Kabir got late call ups to make their four day debut for their new club.
The Victorians won the toss and elected to bat and Province were keen to get on top early and destroy any chance of a large total.

Matt Mott and Matt Elliot began solidly taking seeing off McGrath and Nelson comfortably but then some stunning work in the field alllowed Province to capitalise on some poor running between the wickets and sent Mott back to the pavillion. 2 balls later a ball kept low on Elliot and Funston collected his first wicket LBW, the Bushrangers main man was back in the pavillion. What was to follow was a sign that the pressure of the game was getting to the Vics with 3 more run outs being recorded. The innings never was allowed to gain momentum as a result and Victoria were only able to compile a lowly 203.

Province were keen to capitalise as Sehwag and Llewellyn set about doing their task admirably. The Province line up was solid with all players making good contributions allowing a solid platform but the day belonged however to Rabbi Llewellyn. Rabsie smashed 25 boundaries and 2 sixes on his way to an unbeaten 231. Everything the talented Vic attack could throw at the big man was answered with brutal blows. Llewellyn carried his bat through the inning as Province reached 492, their highest for the season proving they have more to come.

Victoria began their 2nd inning well with the top order batting with courage. However another unfortunate run out to Elliot who was looking like he might've saved the day when he was on 66 sent the Vics crashing to yet another defeat and Province to another victory by an innings. Nelson picked up 5/80 in the second dig showing a welcome return to form.

The win leaves Province well clear on top of the table however the side is determined to not let the foot off the accelerator and are looking to wrap this division up as soon as possible.

"The guys played really well out there, it was an unbelievable performance. Losing two big names right before play meant we had to change things around but it didn't matter we still dominated. Rabbi Llewellyn proved that he is one of the best players around and his double century was a well deserved one. The fielding was also another highlight as we really destroyed the Vics with some accurate and agile work. All round a great game"

Auckland cruises home

A superbly paced run chase from Auckland granted a third consecutive 4D win, this time over Jamaica.

Some disciplined bowling ensured that Jamaica did not progress past 257, with Plummer (3/64) and Devin London (2/20) doing the most. Only Pieterson, with a brilliant 111 did anything of note with the bat. In response the tourists piled up not much better with 283 all out. Smith (52) and de Jong (55) provided the main run scoring.

With a useful lead of 26, Auckland dismissed Jamaica for 280 in the second stint at the crease. Pawar (55 not out) and Dippenaar and Ardley (46 each) did the bulk work. This time it was Tudor (4/43) and Liyanage (3/53) were the Auckland stars.

With 255 the target, Auckland reached 130/1 before Rowell (80) and Rowland (3) fell within 5 runs of each other. Still, Smith pressed onward with Godwin, but was out for 69 before the end.

Having lost 5 wickets along the way, Godwin (45 not out) and Leibenberg (18 not out) added the winning 47 runs in an unbroken stand.

Colts record 1st win

Colts CC recorded their 1st 4d win of the season with a huge win over ND. ND have looked very good this season, but have now been brought down to earth by a rampant colts side.

The Match was over almost as soon as it started with the colts rolling the ND batting lineup for just 166, Sangakkara top scoring with 41*. The wickets were shared with Lee, Shaw, Daly and Beasley each claiming 2 and Hettarachchi and Liyanage taking 1 each.

The Boys passed the ND total just 3 wickets down and ended up amassing 448, Anderson unbeaten on 182. Payne also continued to contribute well with 63. Madanagopal and Guneratne both got starts but failed to go on with them being dismissed in the 40's.

ND needed something special. Chougale set about making the colts bat again, but he recieved no support from the other end, as lee and beasley ripped the ND batting apart taking 3/43 and 3/34 respectivley. Chougale was the only batsman to make inroads with a solid 88 before being trapped in front by Hettarachchi. Liyanage also picked up a couple of tail enders leaving him with some very nice match figures of 5.5 overs 3/22.

age_master was quoted after the game "thats the sort of commitment im asking for for the rest of the season, a fantastic game for virtually all of the team - particularly Anderson and Beasley, both finding good form. we have to build on this however if we are to stand any chance of catching WP, they also just recorded a huge win and are looking nearly unstoppable for the title, it will take a huge effort but i think the boys are up for it"
