Leics vs Canterbury

Wow, what a belter.
Canterbury won the toss and elected to bat.
M. Sinclair 177*
I think that says it all, a brilliant innings off just 156 balls.
Fellow opener Johnson (10) in a 42 run partnership, Number 3 Jaffer (38) in a 105 run partnership, Chanderpaul (0) (yay!) in a 5 run partnership, Raza (43) in a 126 run partnership, round 6* in a 9 run partnership.
extras 13
Canterbury 4-287
Leics only bowlers of note were Muller 10 3 36 1, and Cunis 10 1 58 2.

Not what the Leics bowlers were expecting, thats for sure.

Enter leics to bat, and things looked dire, however a 60 run opening stand between Lumb (34) and S. Kabir started things off well. On comes Samaraweera (46) and 92 runs later is dismissed, then star player Ponting (46) puts on a 99 run stand with Kabir, Leics now 3-251, could Leics pull it off? 4 runs later Kabir falls for 118 off 116, a brilliant knock. Leics 4-255 with 6 overs to go.
But Deitz loses it for them scoring a motoring 16* off 23 balls, with partner Ogden 13* off 16, Deitz simply taking too long, Leic finishing 4-285, 3 runs short of Victory.

Tragedy!!

Canterbury bowler of note, that man, Agit Agarkar, 10 2 37 1, taking the viital wicket of Kabir.

A great match in the end, full credit to Canterbury.
MOM Sinclair for a phenomenal 177*

Province came to Worcester needing to pick up some points as did Worcestershire, if they were to keep in touch with the top of the div 3 table.
Worcester's batting showed this early as they began cautiously so as to not lose an early edge to Province. Whilst most of the top order got starts they never really got any momentum as the Province bowlers maintained a good line and length. Burley was the only way to show any excitement with the bat scoring 42 off 63. Lee and Hogg were impressive taking 2 wickets a piece while G Yates was the pick of the Province bowlers with figures of 1/18 off 10. Rabbi Llewellyn also made an impressive debut to the bowling crease being picked ahead of Astle and Irani and bowling 10 unchanged overs for 28 runs.

All Province needed was a solid effort with the bat and that's exactly what they got. After a few early shakes with Astle and Richardson back in the pavillion Rabbi Llewellyn added 53 off 91 and was supported by Rickman who finished 46 not out. In true South African style Neil McKenzie then finished the game with 42 off 47 balls to get the side home with 5 overs left and 7 wickets in the bag.
The only negative to come out of the match for WP was the injury sustained by Nathan Astle. He injured his finger and will be out for 5 wickets, and the experienced Kiwi will be a big loss in that time.
Province manager Slats4ever after tha game. "An impressive game mate. The bowler's really improved from their last outing against Karnataka which is what I wanted. I knew our batting was solid and chasing that score i was never worried. Nathan's injury is a worry though, however we do have depth to cover for him"

Yorkshire Again in Match of the Round

Yorkshire have now been in 3 games that have come to the wire but this time came away with the points.

Surrey went in to the game on a belter of a pitch. Early wickets for hamilton with 2 but other than that nothing. Ward and mane with centuries for SUrrey and the game looked over with only 3 wickets falling.
3 - 313

Yorkshire went in and lost early wickets and then it looked like the story of last season but then Hooper and Law came together. With a great stand seeing Hooper finally get that century from last week and law with a good innings.
Rookie West showed his worth and with the depth of the batting order with white hitting a valuable load the Phoenix won their first game of the season.
5- 315 with 2 overs to go

Hooper finally got his century in form captain

Well played to Yorkshire.

I can't say I agree with the man of the match award, but I was very impressed by Alex Tudor (9 overs 1-36 when everyone else was 5 or more an over!)

Auckland pulled off an encouraging win in their second round OD match against Somerset.

Although the bowling failed, the batting pulled through to overhaul the target of 241, exposing the depth of the Auckland batting lineup which Liam Camps has put together.

Smith topscored with 76 and Nagamootoo was called upon for a heroic matchwinning knock of 43 not out, off just 26 balls, with 3 massive sixes. The main runs came from the uninspired bowling of Bulbeck 1/79 (10).

A concern to Liam Camps after two complete rounds of OD cricket, will be the failure of top draft pick, E.Howarth, who despite his $5m contract, has managed only 2 runs in his two innings so far.

Duck-Tastic!!!!

Well what can you say about the game? To be honest I’m baffled should I laugh or cry?

A quite remarkable match today at the home of Kent CCC, where a highly unlikely record must have fallen as Kent got a huge hiding from fellow Board Member Graham and his Lancashire side.

Kent won the toss on a typically beautiful sunny day in Canterbury, for obvious reasons Kent elected to bat on a dream of a pitch, which would offer turn to the spinners.

Pre-season star H.Gibbs, who was getting over a cold never looked at home and his pain, was ended when just on 9. With the score on 24/1 B.Allen joined opener Jamie Cox out in the middle and the pair systematically destroyed the bowling to all parts of the ground.

With the score on 144/1 nobody could foresee what was about to happen to the inngs. A Dale charged in and bowled short and wide and Allen put everything including the kitchen skin behind it and somehow Madanagopal reflexes made him stick out a hand and take a scintillating catch, and turn the inngs on it’s head.

144/2 went to 161ao with the remaining 7 wickets all falling for ducks and the Not Out batsman also on 0 (0).

Only Jamie Cox managed to add the few extra runs and played a fantastic inngs that was the only real reason Kent got to 161, ending the day with 96 (95)

The main destorer was Mendis who claimed figures of 6/34

Kent 161 (32 Overs): J.Cox 96, B.Allen 47, Gibbs 9; Mendis 6/34

In reply to Kent’s 161, the bowlers were out there 30 mins ahead of everyone else hoping to get a bowl on the death trap!

Just like Kent, Lancashire started quickly and both openers were looking good until Schiller managed to run himself out for 36. Four runs later and Baumgarner was welcomed to the club becoming the 8th person on the day to fall was a superbly worked Duck!

Unfortunately for Kent they couldn’t capitalize when Madanagopal murdered the attack for a 38 ball 50. Still not quite home the game was ready for more twists and turns as Murtagh clean-bowled Madanagopal, and left just 17 for victory.

O Beasley who has been in super touch of later, knew what was best and proceded to run himself out for the 9th Duck of the day.
R Dravid the vastly experienced batsman and solid as a rock you say, like everyone else it was only fair to allow R Dravid to join our little party and become the 10th Duck of the day (sounds like a menu  ) And the 4th Golden Duck of the day.

However that little bowler returned to hunt us down as Mendis managed to stay in (woohoo it’s possible) and hit a undefeated 4 (10) and partner M Ramprakash 68* (86) home.

Lancashire 162/5 (31 Overs): Ramprakash 68*, Madanagopal 50; Hawkins 2/41, Murtagh 1/42

Lancashire Won By 5 Wickets

MOM - M Mendis

Unfortunately a certain Mr Mendis wasn’t around to collect his MOM award, after he disappeared without notice… last seen being dragged (sorry walking, of his own free will) behind the Indoor Nets, by a large group of Kent supporters… To offer their congrats on a top performance no doubt :D

Glamorgan Vs. Warwickshire – Howarth and Masroor save the day…

Deciding to bat on the fast Swansea pitch, Glamorgan made a reasonable start. However Adams and Kaneria picked up the wickets of Ganguly and D.Hemp to leave the home side 2/41. O.Hemp (110) and Dale (33) went about getting things back on track. They added 114 for the third wicket before Dale was superbly stumped for 33 by keeper McDonald. Kewell didn’t last long as he hit one down Howarth's throat at cover. 4/168 was the score as Dinge joined Hemp. The pair added a further 71 before Hemp hit one straight back to bowler Kaneria. He went for 110 off only 112 balls. Upashantha followed two balls later leaving Glamorgan 6/243. As Dinge tried to hold the innings together wickets continued to fall around him. Jones (6) was run out and then two balls later Clarke hit one straight to Howarth leaving the home side 8/260. A late flourish ensued before Dinge (56) was dismissed on the final ball of the innings by Adams. Glamorgan had amassed a more than competitive total with 9/276.

The best bowler was Kaneria (3/49). Adams (2/51) and Gregson (2/52) both chipped in as well. The only dilemma now for manager Kurt Christensen was Mark Ealhams replacement Jermaine Lawson. He got smashed for 0/68 off 10.

Warwickshire made a slow start. Soon they found themselves in trouble as Anderson (8) went caught behind off the bowling of Jones leaving the Bear 1/14. Ali and Masroor came together, and the former Karachi team mates added 115. Although Ali scored painfully slow, Masroor was on fire. Christensen’s decision to promote him to three had payed off. Ali eventually went for 38 off 78. It was slow innings, but it had layed a platform. Howarth joined Masroor at 129/2. The pair were now scoring very rapidly, as the score raced to 159/2. Davies came into the attack and did Masroor with a slower ball, bowling him around his legs. Masroor went for 83 off only 62 balls. Howarth was joined by McDonald who didn’t last long, going for only 6. 4/171 and it was all on as Hockley joined Howarth. These two played superb, as Howarth went nuts smashing the bowlers all over the place. After an amazing display of hitting Howarth went for 75 off only 50 balls, leaving him with 111 runs off 68 balls so far this season. The score was 5/240 with victory well within Warwickshires reach. Adams made a duck, but then Giles (19*) and Hockley (42*) saw them home with 4 overs to spare.

MOM - Mahhumad Masroor

"I'm really pleased with this result. Defeat here would have left us firmly in the poo, but we have prevailed. The only concern now is, who will fill the fifth bowling position? For now we have to concentrate on the four day match against ND, which promises to provide us with a lot of fun",...

Colts vs Victoria

This Match was crutial for us as we needed the win to get our confidence back up after a poor performance against Surrey.

Things did not start well as we lost 2 wickets before any runs were posted with T welsford claiming 2 key wickets in SHarath and Singh. Shewag (34) and Anderson (56) then built the innings up with Klusener (78) and Shaw (48) scoring some quick runs at the end, Simon Katich was again dissapointing with a golden duck.

welsford was the pick of the bowlers taking 4/37 with HArvey and lewis also taking 3 wickets each.

The victorian innings started well (well better than ours ;)) but 2 early runouts cost them as they lost 2 wickets on 23, wickets than fell fairly regularly for the victorians as their run rate slowed. Ian Harvey was the only batsman that ever looked dangerous smashing 28 runs off just 11 balls befoore being cleaed up by Vaas. All the bowlers bowled well, all very economical with 14/44 overs being maidens, Shaw claiming the most maidens, bowling 5

Hoggard was the pick of the bowlers taking 3/27

Klusener was the MOM however after scoring 78 and taking 2/27 from 8 overs.

ACT CONTINUE UNBEATEN

The ACT Comets won their 2nd consecutive 1 day match of the season and sit nicely on top of the division 5 table.
After winning the toss The boys from Canberra decided to bat first on a very nice deck.
After succesfully chasing 330 in the first game of the season coach Fitzsimmons decided an extra bowler was needed for this clash.
Again this week Eastlake captain Michael Dawn and in form batsman Sean Maxwell opened the innings. Coming off a ton in game 1 Maxwell began like a house on fire racing to 30 off just 20 balls. He then settled down and was eventually dismissed for 42 off 56 balls with the score at 70. The rest of the innings was a slaughter with the bowlers going to all parts of the ground with very little success. By the end of the innings the crowd had taken more catches than jamaica managed. The highlight of the innings was David Jeffrey's breath taking 65 not out. Jeffrey, considered more of a 4 day player has looked super impressive in the 1 day game so far and is firmly establishing himself as one of WCC's leading all round batsmen.
ACT finished up with 3/294 from their 50 overs. All the batsmen got amongst the runs. Michael Dawn 88 (109) making his 2nd consecutive half century, Jeffrey 65 (42), Ben Southam 62 (81), Maxwell 42 (56) and David Dawson chipped in with 23 (12) at the end of the innings.
Srinath, Stuart and White took a wicket each for Jamaica.
Jamaica's chase didnt start well loosing 2 wickets for just 37 runs early on. just 2 runs laster the game looked over with the wicket of Wavell Hinds.
Wickets were easy to come by at regular intervals for the Comets.
V Bahradwaj and Street were the only batsmen who dug in and made a fist of the innings. Bahradwaj unlucky to miss out on a ton finishing 83 not out, Street with a solid half century was a good sign for the Jamaican coach.
Jamaica were eventually all out for 266 in the last over of the innings. Matt Ramage back in form with 4 wickets, was the star for ACT, Mark Hatton and Southam were both a little expensive but picked up 2 wickets each.
ACT won the match by 28 runs in the end with Man of the Match honours going to David Jeffrey for his swashbuckling 65.

LANCASHIRE visit Kent

Kent batted first and after losing H.Gibbs (9)early on, went through to 144/1 with J.Cox (96) and B.Allen (47) batting impressively.
Then VCM4 struck and the visitors plunged to 161 all out with none of the remaining 8 batsmen scoring a single run! Unbelievable!
M.Mendis (10-2-34-6) and C.Schofield (3-1-8-2) were the main beneficiaries.

Lancashire were untroubled in chasing down the victory target, M.Ramprakash (68no) leading the way with good support from J.Madanagopal (50) and A.Schiller (36).
A late flurry of wickets saw Lancashire go from 145/2 to 151/5, but it was too little too late and the victory was achieved by five wickets at 162/5.

Unsurprisingly M.Mendis was named man of the match.
