Colts vs Victoria

The 2nd round of the 4 day competition gave us the chance to assert dominance on victoria and to try and catch the leaders of the division.

On a pretty good looking pitch victoria won teh toss and elected to bat, this proved disastous with the Bushrangers losing wickets constantly. only S Manjrekar providid any resistance scoring 53, the stars of the bowling were G Shaw who claimed 3 top order wickets and ended up with 3/37, and Ashley Nofffke who claimed 4/33. beasley also chipped in with 2/8 form 6 overs :) - victoria 147 AO

Sharath (54) and Shewag (67) then took full advantage of good batting conditions hammering all the bushranger bowlers. before Anderson (175*) and Katich (123) built a huger partnership of 209, this helped built the innings up to 8/561 declared

The Victorian Batsmen did a good job in the 2nd innings but were still not close enough Elliot (137) and Arnberger (57) put up stiff resistance, faisca took 5/98 helping secure the win

Colts continue to look good with star batsman W Anderson already nearly 100 runs ahead of any other batmen in the division

Warwickshire Vs. Northern Districts

Warwickshire won the toss and batted. Warwickshire took to the crap ND attack. Anderson (70) and Sriram (76) enjoyed smacking the ball around, while Howarth made batting look fun as he carved his way to a superb 167. Veteran and surprise call up Warren Hegg made 53* as Warwickshire were bowled out for 493. Vettori took 6 wickets.

ND's reply was nothing short of poor. The top order crumbled under the intense pressure of Gregson (4/35) and Hasnain (3/30). ND were 6/59 before a gritty century from Fleming (108*), with help from Vaughan (16), who batted at 8 for some bizarre reason, and Vettori (36) helped them through to 237.

ND were 258 runs behind and now it seemed that it would be a matter of waiting for the inevitable. Hasnain (3/41) reduced them to 3/10, before Fleming (46) and Rummans (46) help them through to 3/94. When they were dismissed, Gregson (4/31) rapped up the tale leaving ND all out for 155.

Warwickshire won by an innings and 103 runs. Howarth was awarded man of the match for his 167.

"I expected nothing less than this result. We played very well and we're now looking foward to our next four day match against Tasmania, which should be a challenge, unlike this match. We feel Tassy have the best batting line up in this division and we have the best bowling attack, so it should be very exciting..."

I forgot to mention. Northern Districts have yet to pick up even a bonus in their first two games. They have one long road ahead of them, and if they avoid relegation, I'll be in shock.

LANCASHIRE crumble to big loss against visiting KARNATAKA

Karnataka batted first and put together 310 all out with G.Smith (63), K.Rangnekar (61), A.Kale (56) and A.Jones (49) all getting amongst the runs.
S.Harwood (25-6-55-4), M.Pushpakumara (20-5-58-3) and A.Dale (37-11-97-2) shared the spoils.

In reply Lancashire were looking solid at 166/3 with K.Baumgarner (79) and M.Ramprakash (49) having batted well. But unfortunately the innings fell away and the home side were dismissed for 230 all out.
All of the Karnataka bowlers had some success with M.Khan (16-4-40-2), V.Wadekar (15-5-29-2) and A.Jones (11-2-25-1) the most impressive.

Karnataka’s second innings would have a big bearing on the outcome of the match. A good total would put real pressure on the home side in the fourth innings, but a poor score would leave the door ajar.
The home fans were full of excitement when S.Harwood and A.Dale had the visitors reeling at 42/3, but K.Rangnekar (134), G.Smith (75) and B.Rowland (60no) took the game out of Lancashire’s reach as they took their side through to 359/7 declared leaving the home side an unlikely victory target of 440.
No bowling figures that particularly stood out as S.Harwood, A.Dale and M.Pushpakumara again shared the wickets. A disappointing match for E.Kellar who ended up wicketless.

A spirited fight would be required by the Lancashire batsmen if they were to avoid defeat, but unfortunately the Karnataka bowlers made the most of the deteriorating pitch conditions to roll the home side for a paltry 176 all out to register a mammoth 263 run victory.
K.Baumgarner (55) and M.Mendis (40no) were the only contributors of any note with the bat whilst M.Khan (12-5-26-3), K.Ali (16-4-48-3) and A.Jones (9-4-29-3) did the damage with the ball.

K.Rangnekar was named man of the match.

nsw 4day campaign under way

playing a tough surrey nsw always thought it was going to be a tough encounter ,a nd to win by 1 wicket shows how tough it was.

surrey batting first on what looked like a good deck, tried to get a positive score out of the nsw bowlers but it was cut short when the visitors rolled surrey for 286. loosing consistant wickets surrey couldnt really get ontop of things with a brown the pick of the bats with 71 (142). the middle order all got starts but no one went on to post a high score.s warne the pick of the bowlers with 3 - 35 of 18 overs. c cairns also got 3 nd mcgrath, kallis lee & ferguson all got 1 each. nsw happy with the start would now look to dominate and get a handy lead over the surrey boys, but it wasnt to be. kallis was the pick of the bats with 93 (128) his first score for the year, (which was needed as if he failed he was being dropped to ssdcc 1st x1. a few other batsmen got starts but all in all a dissapointing 1st innings by the star studded blues who gave up a lead of about 41. j ormn the pick of the surrey bowlers with 4 - 58 of 18 overs

surrey where in the perfect position with a 1st innings lead, and make nsw chase on a deteriorating last day wicket. surreys second innings was better than there first with j wilkes the stand out with 124 (205). again a few starts by other batsmen but aa good total set for new needoing 387 to take the points. nsw best bowlers in surreys 2nd innings was mcgrath with 4 - 94 of 29.

the total was set, the nsw batsmen where struggling for form. could they get the run sor would surrey take the points away.
well in a magnificent come from behind win, nsw battled to win by 1 wicket. g kirsten held the nsw innings together with an unbeaten 168 (326) also claiming man of the match. nsw got the runs wstill with 30 overs to spare but 18 runs for the last wicket to takethe points must have been heart breaking for surrey. m bevan and b lara who had quiet games also chipped in when needed with solid 40's. a close game but nsw happy to get the points and jump into 3rd spot behind qld on the 4day table. a few boys out of form and expect some changes come next 4 day game.

cheers

The Stewards are in

The result of the game is still pending a decision from GB re submission of a team from Somerset. As no one turned up to play from their team, and a group of people who weren't invited to turn up to play, Province believe that the game shuld be awarded to them.

As simmer of the game Slats, I sought instructions from GB as this was the second week running for Somerset (a manager who hadn't been around long) - It was deemed that I should select a side for Somerset and whatever result would stand.

Qld again could only manage in a draw in their match against Yorkshire.

Qld batted first and amassed a huge 616. Fogden 138, Maher 133, Love 77, Hussain 50 and Flintoff 91* were the stars. Gough battled hard for his 5 wickets.

Yorkshire responded with 317 with W Tendulkar making 84 and Law 73. Bichel took 5/61. After following on Yorkshire got themselves out of trouble by batting well making 463. Hooper with 154 was the mainstay. Trott took 4/64.

There was not enough time to get the 187 required the game petered out to a draw.

The manager still asks the question as to why his bowling wasn't changed to that requested in the off season as it may be the cause of his side not being able to bowl other sides out more efficiently. Trott, a specialist bowler, is following 3 all rounders in the bowling order.

Wouldn't it have been fairer to let VC randomly pick the XI?

GB's instructions - it's harsh on the new manager coming in ifsomeone's not been in charge long then disappears since one could question their dedication in the first place.

Realistically there chould be no complaints about this issue.....

This rule has been in place since the WCC began... I have always stated that the 1st time a manager doesn't submit then they will be given a forfeit, if it happens again they will be sacked and the game will not be classed as a forfeit as it disadvantages a new manager....
