ROUND 12 REPORTS !

Graham

3rd Umpire
LANCASHIRE v HAMPSHIRE.

Lancashire were given a huge fright at bottom placed Hampshire as they squeaked home with just 8 runs to spare!

Lancashire batted first and got off to a poor start when star opener A.Swann went first ball.
However T.Roberts(62), N.Fairbrother(36), R.Dravid(43) and G.Lloyd(28) recovered the situation in taking the side through to 187/3.
Then 5 wickets fell within the space of 13 runs and at 200/8, Lancashire were in trouble.
Spirited knocks from the tailenders J.Wood(27no) and M.Smethurst(28) saved the day for Lancashire and the final total of 261 all out was sure to provide the home side with a real challenge.
Of the home bowlers A.Mullally(2/8 from 8), S.Udal(2/44 from 10), C.Tremlett(2/44 from 7), A.Morris(2/55 from 10) and N.Johnson(1/22 from 4) all did the job expected of them. J.Hamblin(1/75 from 10) proved to be far too expensive.

In reply Hampshire lost two early wickets to be 24/2, but J.Hamblin(46) and S.Udal(33) steadied the ship.
There were again jitters when the fifth wicket fell with only 103 runs on the board, but a magnificent innings from N.Johnson(84 off 64 balls) had the visitors visibly worried.
After Johnson fell at 223/6, the Lancashire bowlers turned the screws and J.Crawley(44no off 83) and L.Prittipaul(14no) fell agonisingly 8 runs short of the victory target at 253/6.
P.Martin(3/46 from 10), M.Smethurst(1/36 from 10) and J.Wood(0/42 from 10) were the pick of the Lancashire bowlers.

Yorkshire v WA
Not the greatest lead up to the CA cup final. but a lead up all the same.
Yorkshire bat with 222 all out with no outstanding in fact i could drop everyone next week if it wasnt for the final around the corner.
Wa never looked fussed and easily overcame the runs. Hussey with 100.
But with Warwickshire loosing that means Yorkshire cannot be relegated this season. Woohoo. I made it.

10 overs were wasted by the Warwickshire batsmen, and the final score of 227 was never likely to be enough.

Overall it was a better performance than in previous occasions with the bat, with good knocks by Knight (again), Troughton, Penney and Smith.

The bowling was tighter than previously, especially Sheikh (10 overs for 26), but not penetrative enough :(

GB, just to say mate that I never recived this weeks results, however going by Eyes_Only's report I don't think I wish to see them, Oh well that's promotion gone for another year (how did TN do?)

Tassie have fallen from the second division...

To put is simply they lost, badly.

And with 5th, 6th and 7th all winning they are stuck on the bottom for at least the the rest of the season.

Sorry, that is all I can say, I've lost my computer for a while and my will to live :( :)

Worcestershire had their first win under manager broncoman, defeating Tasmania by 218 runs.

Worcs batted first and got of to a good start, Pipe and Pollard put on 79 for the frist wicket before Watson broke through.
Next came a new divison 2 record partnership for the second wicket. Pipe and Smith put on 226 in quick time to have Worcs 2-305.
The late wicket of Hick for 5 saw Worcestershire finish up at a fantastic 3/313 from their 50 overs.
Pipe top scoring with a new WCC record score with 160(143), Smith assisted well with 106(103).

Tasmania didnt start well being 3-1 not long into the innings. It never got any better for Tigers being eventually dismissed for 95, Wright was the only Tasmanian to make 20, he finished with 22*.
Bowling figures for Worcs were

O M R W
A.Sheriyar 3 2 4 1
Kabir Ali 5 1 14 2
S.Warne 7 1 35 3
G.Hick 5 0 18 2
N.Round 5 1 22 1

A big win for Worcestershire leaves them confident for a few more wins at the end of the season.

Well Kent put up a poor performance agaist a team they really should have beaten (on paper). The loss leaves Kent little hope of taking the 2nd promotion spot from under the noses of TN, However they also lost and it comes down to the final two games in which they have the easier of the fixtures (Tas & Worcs) compared to mine games against South Australia and Glamorgan, SA have beaten me 3 times so far this season and Glamorgan beat me in the last match we played.

Anyway Kent allowed the ND batsman to score 217/8 which was a average score and one we should have got with ease however with a mixture of good bowling and poor batting theKent innings failed and were knocked over for just 152ao with B.Lara top scoring with 46

Lets hope for a much improved performance against SA next week

Blewy

Cricketer Of The Year
Well after recieving a forfeit which granted them a automatic spot into the top Division the SA side went out against a randomly selected Somerset team and absolutley blew them off the park...

Another brilliant hundred by Lehmann was the highlight, but the lowlight the poor form of Star bat Greg Blewett...
Blewett's poor form has seen him struggle all season and the latest news out of SA is that Blewy may be left out of the side to take on Rivals kent this weekend, Stay Tuned for more.....

Queensland vs Mumbai

Queensland travelled to India to take on Mumbai, and a win here could cement their position at the top of the table.

Queensland batting first, set a very poor total compared to their usual standards hitting 8/214 off their 50 overs. The star batters were bowlers Andy Bichel, with 47 not out, and J. Hopes 52 not out.

In reply, Mumbai hit 8/215 off 49 overs to claim victory over the top placed Bulls team.
Their star bowlers were again Andy Bichel with 2/50, and J. Hopes 2/48.

After his terrible form over the past year, Andrew Symonds departs the team making way for star opening batsman Michael Slater. However, Bichel and Hopes have impressed coach Dean Goff with their performances over the season, ensuring their spots for the upcoming season next year.
