The Umpires have confirmed the results of the 4 day match between ND and Victoria.

The match ended in a draw with ND gaining first innings points.

Fleming made 99 before getting out LBW to Harvey. Lathwell made 156 off 279 balls to be the highest scorer in the match, with McCullum, Rhodes, Perrea, Hart and Yovich all making good starts.

Eyes_Only who did not attend the match due to personal reasons, was delighted with the result. She is hoping for a little improvement with some of her batsmen. She was concerned by the number of extras given away by her bowlers and will work on this during training this week.

On a bright and sunny morning Matty Elliot, won the toss, and decided to have a bat, against the cross Tasman visitors Northern Districts.

Elliott and Arnberger put on 114 for the first wicket, and the top 4 batsmen all made over fifty. Once ND busted up the top order, they sailed through the Bushrangers tail, to dismiss us for 322 a/o, a score that promised sooo much more at 3/255. Bracken the star with 3/47 all top order bats.

It was then the Vics turn to bowl, and the attack looked "pop-gun" at best. With Styris the only ND batsman to miss out on the practise, it really did look like a group out 16 year old kids bowling to Adam Gilchrist.

ND opener Lathwell pilled on 156 runs, as they cruised passed the VIC total 2 wickets down. Part time bowler Clark & Hodge added some clASS to the VIC bowling, with ND getting bored at 7/564
Fleming unlucky ajudge LBW for 99, the umpire has apparently not being seen since.

Victoria's chance to bat again, and boy did the Vics turn it on this time. It was the Vic's time to pass 500, on what appeared to be a freeway of a deck at the MCG.

Matty Mott making the fastest hundred of the round, off 141 balls.

And with NSW recruit M.Clarke showing the goods, with a 82

Victoria ended on 527 a/o

ND then belittled our attach a little further with 70 runs of 16 overs.

It appears that Division 2 will be hard with an attack like this. I say bring back uncovered pitches.

India did it against Australia Age in that famous Calcutta test.Do you remember. Canterbury was in a much better position in this match than India. So it happens in vc4 and real life also.

3rd Umpire
LANCASHIRE v TAMIL NADU

Lancashire batted first.
After losing M.Ramprakash early, A.Schiller (51) and R.Dravid (58) put on a century partnership for the second wicket.
However, both fell in quick succession and this precipitated a batting collapse as B.Prasad (17-7-36-4), L.Balaji (24-6-84-4) and S.Vidyut (2-1-5-2) rolled the home side for a disappointing 194 all out.

But the Lancashire pace duo of M.Smethurst and A.Dale came out with fire in their bellies and proceeded to do a two man demolition job on the visitor’s batting lineup.
TN opener S.Ramesh (29) top scored as M.Smethurst finished with 15-4-56-4 and A.Dale with 14-6-34-5 and the innings produced just 94 all out!

A.Schiller (53) scored his second half century of the match as together with R.Dravid (38), he again steadied the innings after the early loss of M.Ramprakash.
J.Modanagopal (55) and M.Beerala (74) chimed in with a century partnership for the fifth wicket, and although the tail folded quickly again, Lancashire had put together a second innings total of 284 all out.
TN would require an imposing fourth innings target of 385 for victory.
L.Balaji (13-5-31-3) completed a fine match with the ball while ex-Lancashire man P.Martin finished with 16-3-66-3 after having no success in the first innings.

TN folded again when they came to the batting crease to be all out for a lowly 102 with W.Vaas (23) having the honour of being top scorer.
A.Dale took 12-6-33-5 to finish with 10 wickets for the match and take out man of the match. Once he and M.Smethurst had had their stint at the bowling crease, on came the home spinners, C.Schofield (7-3-16-1) and M.Pushpakumara (6-3-6-3), to finish off the job on a turning pitch.

And so an impressive first up effort from the home side in taking out victory by a massive 282 runs.
Manager GrahamB was jubilant about the effort of his bowling attack in particular and also with A.Schiller’s fine batting double on a difficult pitch. He did express a little concern though about the batting, saying that some of his batsmen would need to be showing more application against some of the heavyweight bowling attacks that they are likely to encounter.
Next up in the FC competition is a visit from mighty Queensland! The Lancashire lads will be looking to avenge their loss to Queensland in the first round of the OD competition.

Worcestershire won the toss and elected to bat first against Surrey. It was a promising start for Worcs with openers Grant Flower (88) and Michael Dighton (92) both batting brilliantly. Worcs were 3/210 before Surrey sprung into action. They were soon dismissed for 321 early on day 2.
Alex Tudor the best of the bowlers with 6 wickets in the innings.
Surrey came within 10 runs for worcestershire's first innings total beofre they were all out for 311. A great 10th wicket stand of 31 nearly got them over the line but some smart bowling from young Sri Lankan Alexander made sure Worcs took first innings points.
Razzaq was the start with the ball taking 5 wickets, to go with his 4 in the opening one dayer of the season.
Grant Flower capped off a great match making a second innings century, Dighton scored his second half century of the match to secure his spot in the side.
Worcs scored 6-401 to be in the box seat. Higgs and Kaluwitherana also got 50's in what was an encouraging performance.
The game fizzled out into a boring draw, Brown getting a century. Worcs manager Broncoman apparently left the ground before the game was over. It is reported that he was very disapointed with the umpiring. He had this to say, "It was pathetic, we should have won this match 2 days ago. Blind Freddie saw half of those LBW decisions that went against us were wrong" He was also quoted as saying " There needs to be a complete over haul of the umpiring system, if this is the best we can come up with im not here"

KARNATAKA VS SOMERSET

The all round performance by rookie all rounder A JONES was the highlight of the massive Karnataka win over Somerset.

Karnataka won the toss and elected to bat.Soon they found themselves in a tricky situation at 5/108.But then there was a patnership of 86 runs between B Rowland(56) and A Jones(50).The tail could not withstand the pressure and failed and Karnataka were allout for 226.S Afridi bowled quite well for the hosts taking 4/33.The decision to bat first had backfired and many were unhappy with it.

Then Somerset were bundled out for just 108.All the bowlers chiped in with wickets but the pick of them was A JONES with figures of 4/19 in 9 overs.

Having a lead of 110 odd runs the Karnataka batsman played their natural game and everyone scored in the 2nd innings.Top scorer was M Attapatu(72), the captain of Karnataka.A JONES again chipped in with 58 not out and Karnataka declared at 426-9.R Johnson took 3 wickets for the hosts.

Needing an imposing 545 to win in the 4th innings it was never going to be easy for the hosts. There was a good 1st wicket patnership of 72 between M Trescothik(55) and P Bowler but after that the hosts lost wickets at regular intervals as every bowlers chipped in again.Pick of the bowlers this time was MA Khan with figures of 4/65.A JONES again chipped in with 2 wickets.

Karnataka won the game by 292 runs and A JONES was named man of the match for his all round performance. The only worry for Karnataka in this match was the performance of JO Troughton with scores of 0 and 9.

In the post match press conference Karnataka captain M Attapatu said that he was very happy with the performance of the side and is looking forward to the CA Cup 1st round match against Victoria next week.In an interview A JONES said that he was very happy with his performance and would like to continue to play like this.He was happy that he contributed in the teams win.

Warwickshire under there first match with Manager Muzza suffered a defeat to a top Hampshire otufit. Sent into bat Warwickshire never got any momentum going until Matthew Bulbeck hit a blazing 63 not out off only 62 balls. He managed to stare the innings away from a complete shocker as Warwickshire scrapped through to 283. The best bowlers was for Hampshire was Tremlett with 3/41

In reply Hampshire batted well and they reached 310 mainly thanks to Graham's superb innings of 126.

Facing a deflect of 27 Warwickshire batted well. Making 317. Fernando, Penney and Manjrekar all enjoying fifties.

However set 290 to win, Hampshire were in cruise control. Johnson and Campbell both scored fifties to cap off a great start to the four day comp for Hampshire.

We amazingly bowled them out for 148 to win by 11.

Batsmen - Non-existant

nsw suffered its 1st 4 day defeat when they where in a very good position to win or draw the game. batting first and hitting a solid 575, with m bevan scoring a double tonne and m waugh knocking up a tone nsw looked to be in a good position. however mumbai come out blazing and hit 8 - 658 with t darden hitting 247. 2 double tonnes in 2 innings, unbelievable, then nsw collapsed . @ one stage where 2 - 81 and would find them selves all out for 138, w younis doing the damage with 7 - 32 of 11. a magnifecent display of bowling, this left the visitors 57 of 19 overs and they would get the runs with 2 balls remaining.

a superb game of cicket with a heap of runs and 31 wickets. unfotunately nsw would come out empty handed. well done mumbai.

The Glamorgan side showed that they will indeed struggle in the four day comp this season after being demolished by Kent.

Kent won the toss and batted. Steady wickets flowed until Flower 79 and Steve Waugh 99 combined for a good 139 run partnership. The last 4 wickets fell for 0 runs and Kent was bowled out for 309. The best of the bowlers were Black 3/67 and Ganguly 2/4.

The Glamorgan first innings was a debacle, bowled out for 101. Dale topscored with an unbeaten 35. Hemp, Newell and Dighe all got ducks. Hutton 3/19 and Khan 3/11 were the best with the ball.

The follow on was enforced and while an improved performance was put in, it still wasn't good enough. 224 meant that Kent had to bat again. Newell 61 and Dighe 52 were the best. Saggers 4/47 and Marsh 4/38 bowled well.

The Kent side knocked off the 17 runs required without loss.

A disappointing result. Changes to the 4 day side are likely.

South Australia vs Yorkshire

The Redbacks travelled to Yorkshire to take on the under-rated englishmen who were out to spoil the 4 day Favourites party...
The Redbacks lost the toss and were surprisingly sent in on what looked a pretty good deck...
The Visitors lost VVS Laxman early for only 15 and when Jenkins fell for 35 they were 2/77...
Stratton got a start but also fell and at 3/126 SA were a little shaky but Darren Lehmann and Shane Watson put on 94 before Watson departed for a well compiled 51, Lehman made a solid 95 before falling to Yorkshire Allrounder Hamilton..
After that only Kumble provided any real resistance with 42, SA dismissed for 328..
The wickets shared for the home team...

In reply the yorkshireman were in trouble with Richardson, Fitzgerald and Hooper all back in the pavilion before the score hit 50...
But rookie Indian W.Tendulkar and N.McKenzie put on 79 before McKenzie fell for 40..
Tendulkar continued on and with support from Blakey, White and Hamilton he piled on an unbeaten 159 to help give Yorkshire a 1st inns lead...
Kumble and Harrity the picks for SA with the ball..

The SA 2nd innings was much different to the 1st as the visitors took the game by the scruff of the neck with Laxman (84), Lehmann (71*) and Jenkins (179*) all playing games with what was ordinary bowling as the visitors piled on 371 for the loss of only 1 wicket before declaring..

Needing 334 to win Yorkshire again were in early trouble with Richardson, Tendulkar and Hooper all back in the pavilion again before the score hit 50...
McKenzie and Vaughan didn't last much longer and all of a sudden Yorks were reeling at 5/97..
Fitzgerald and Blakey steadied the sinking ship with a 102 run partnership but when both departed, Blakey for 40, and Richardson for 120 the Yorkshire innings began to wind up with the last 3 wickets falling and Yorks dismissed for 279, still 54 runs short of a win...
Wickets for the South Australians were shared..
Man of the Match for his Blistering 179* was SA youngster M.Jenkins...

After the match SA manager Brendon Goff told reporters he was happy with the effort, " It was a good fight and the boys lifted when they needed to", "Jenkins showed his class and Lehmann and Laxmann proved their worth"...
"Next week is the VB Cup 1st round and with a tough game against Kent also here at Yorks the boys have decided to remain in England and prepare"...
