Ranji Trophy upset?

I see Jammu and Kashmir beat the mighty Mumbai - even taking into account that the Test players are away just how big a shock is that?

It is a big upset when you look at it. However, team wise, Jammu and Kashmir has been pretty good. I remember that they strung some great pefromances last season as well.

Yeah massive, massive upset, but less so than what it would've been a few years back. Mumbai aren't that great right now.

Rahane and Rohit are away, and J&K cricket is at its all-time best by far.

Still, it's a massive massive upset. It's like Afghanistan beating Australia (without Clarke and Warner, say) in Australia.

There is a comment I'm sorely tempted to make in response to this ................................

Mumbai's second string players have not been up to the mark. Most of them are greenhorns with little FC experience. J&K, on the other hand, have fielded very much their strongest team, close to the team that came as far as the quarters of last year's Ranji. Still, can't deny that Mumbai played poorly, second string or otherwise.

Good to see J and K doing well.

They are almost at their all time best cricketing wise.

Btw, Jammu and Kashmir's preparations were deeply affected by Floods.

Parvez Rasool on...

How their preparation was affected by floods...
"We lost a month of practice because of floods. The guys prepared themselves mentally after that and made do with practice wherever possible. The guys from Jammu played in Jammu. The guys from Srinagar also moved elsewhere. It's good that even after such adversity, we were able to perform well. We also had a 15-day camp in Nagpur and that helped us all. Our coach's hardwork and experience had an impact on the boys too."

Losing out on home advantage...
"Every team gets home advantage. Last year we won three out of four of our home matches. This year we don't have a home game, but we will have to manage with whatever we have with us."

Beating Mumbai in Mumbai...
"We did so well here without much preparation, it's a big thing for us. One thing this proves is that our players have a lot of potential. If they get good facilities and infrastructure, they can grow further."

They don't even have a home game this season as the stadium seems to be affected. All matches will be away apparently or just 2 neutral.
