Quinton de Kock has retired from test cricket

Turned 29 recently and was struggling with his back in this test match that ended today, although that is not the reason for his retirement. Wanted to see him play great innings but fair enough if he's done for whatever reason.

Selfish prat, like the rest of them. De Villiers ought to have copped much more flak than he did for his desertion too. More exonerating reasons could come to light, sure but retiring mid way through a series never looks good.

"I want to spend more time with my family so I'm retiring from the format we play very little of."

Makes sense .

Its hard for us to know the reason to why he choose to do this, but this is another body blow to South Africa cricket why cant DE Kock continue as a batsman in test cricket.

It’s hard and time consuming. Fair enough. A four test series lasts such a long time, it’s tough to be away from a young family for that long. White ball series - you can fly in and out much quicker.

I tend to think Covid has played a big part in this. With the extra 2-3 week isolation requirements, it’s a big ask for a guy with a young family to commit to month long test series.

And based on comments that he's made, it seems that living in bubbles may have got to him more than it has other players.
