One-Off Phenomena??

Odie

Does anyone have stories of how rules have formed around any odd one-off phenomena?

Example: Once, a few years ago when we were playing with the neighbours in my driveway, my dad was having a bat. He hit the ball over the driveway, over the street, over the house across the street and into their backyard swimming pool.
Everyone stood there in silence watching the ball sail away and broke out in rapturous cheering when we heard the splash.
After that happened, we formed a rule which stated that if you hit the ball further than 50 meters on the full you were awarded 20 runs. It was seen as an extenstion on the "in the gutter for 6" rule. However, it hasn't happened since, so we've never had to use the rule.

Well I do, but its different as i was practising, on one side the neighbors are very cold and don't like us much whilst on the other side they are very friendly, I once got a long-hop from my brother which i tried to short-arm pull.......it usually ends up in the "cold neighbors' " place and we never see the ball again, that usually signals "end of play" but this time it went high high up , right across the street and into a building site.....maybe it fell in some wet cement as i searched for the ball but never found it !

we kind of have a rule that is similar, a few months back we got new neighbours, they are so damn cranky, always in the backyard working on cars a **** like that.
but when the balls go over their fence they wont give it back.
so the first time this happened we formed a rule that the person who hits the ball over the fence has to pay for a new one.
we dont play all that often anymore though.

Once the ball landed in the letterbox, so of course from then on, in the letterbox was not out (as we have the rule that only the ground or STICKING in a tree can be a bounce). That rule has never been used.

Also, once the ball landed in a puddle, so if the ball gets wet, your out. This actually has happened a few times, but causes arguements such as that not waters its mud. But the main problem with this was, once the ball landed in dog s***. No-one would wash it as the same rule applied to the next time you were in. We wernent sensible about it. You know, just saying OK well wash it. No, we got a new ball.

So we now have another new rule. If you hit the ball in anything, you are out, and you have to wash it.

Whilst batting in an outdoor net, i played a lofted on drive and the ball got cut in half by a nearby combine harvester..

Luckily a spare ball was found...

Some of us support AA.

Some of us also think he's s***.

Me, I'm a mixture of both!

We used to play on this huge parking lot in a building nearby. There used to be this tiny window in the watchman's cabin. We made a rule that if a shot passes through the window panes, and goes inside, 10 runs will be awarded. The window opening was like 20X15 cms maximum, approximately.

We were playing on the deserted road near the miniseashore here.
I hit the ball into the gutter 4 times.
I had to retrieve it 4 times.
Thats it:(
