Experimentation Before Leicestershire Clash

P Madurasinghe was dropped from the one-day side to face Leicestershire next Thursday, as Mørk had finally lost patience with the retiring Sri Lankan batsman, averaging 12 in the one-day division one so far this season, and with six overs costing a hefty 39. In his place will be South African batsman Keith van Jaarsveld, who has shown promising signs in training despite poor form in recent one-day matches.

"Keith is a hard worker and has been a bit shafted with our plans this year." Mørk said in response to the comment. "However, it's not a vote of no confidence to Madura - he just needs some time out of cricket and in less serious games."

Whether that will be on Sunday's cup game is out of Mørk's hands, as he announced that second-in-command Kev Goughy would take over the reins in the cup competition. "This is something that Goughy suggested," Mørk revealed to the listening press, "and I think he needs the experience. We're aiming to create a good team here at Adelaide, and to do that everyone needs to get some challenges." Mørk refused to comment on whether this signified an impending retirement.

Karachi Vs Tamil Nadu

Karachi make two changes for their upcoming home encounter against a strong Tamil Nadu team.
First of all P Saradesi is forced out the team for 5 weeks due his knee having to be reconstructed. After only scoring 31 runs in 2 innings in the OD form of the game, it was likely that he would have been dropped anyway. This injury gives a chance for rookie I Aamer to break into the team. Wicketkeeper Aamer has impressed in his handful of games before this season averaging around 40 in both forms. Aamer will also be taking over the gloves from established OD keeper M Dhoni in an attempt to reduce some of the responsibilities of the in-form batsman/wicketkeeper who is averaging 55 this season due to the massive score he recorded in Round 1.
The other change for Karachi this week sees spinner K Woodcock dropped for batsman Y Youhanna in an attempt to bolster the batting lineup. Woodcock has been going for 7.40 an over this season and has been disappointing in the OD game. The 5th bowler will now be Y Cole who is primarily in the team as a batsman, averaging 52 with the bat and in the limited opportunity he's had has bowled 6 overs recording 1/32 for 5.33 an over.

The team to face Tamil Nadu:
M Manhus
M Jenkins
M Dhoni
J Cooke *
Y Cole
Y Youhanna
I Aamer +
J Louw
P Norman
P Leigh
J Pradeep

Colts have named a unchanged side for the top of the table clash with Victoria but have sent a warning to Salman Butt, Paul Hitchcock and Phillip Jones by resting them for Cup tie against fellow Division One side ACT. Manager Tharmi Loganathan has publicly stated that his not happy with there performances this season and is giving youngsters Murali Mudugalle, Upul Gordon and Thiru Alwis a chance to shown what they are capable in the 1st XI.

Alwis has been in brilliant form for 2nd XI and was one the Colts better players in their loss to Queensland and throughly deserves his chance. Gordon and Mudugalle on the other hand have struggled for the 2nds this season, but Loganathan hopes that the chance to play with some more experienced bowlers with help them return to form. Both are seen as future 1st XI players for the Colts, and this call up is seen as a gradual progession to the 1st XI.

In other selection news interim 2nd XI manager Romesh Kaluwitharana has recalled Club Captain Andrew Symonds and fellow all rounder Quintaz Birch to the starting XI. The unlucky duo to make way for them were rookies Mahela El Zabir and Aravinda Peck. Both can count themselves unlikely to miss out with El Zabir the pick of the 2nd XI bowlers last game and Peck neally guilding the 2nds to victory with a gutsy lower order 24 not out. But the former Sri Lanka wicket keeper batsmen has stated that he fells this is the best team to get the job done against Cameron White's Bushpigs.

Opening experiment continues
Earlier today, Yorkshire manager Greg Thomas announced his side to play Northerns at the weekend. Northerns are without a win in the one day competition in three rounds.
"They'll be due a win...they have a good side so it can't be far away. We edged them out in the Richmond Challenge before the season began and I'm hoping we can repeat that performance" he said.
Like every conference before a One Day match this season, Mr Thomas was asked about his so far unsuccessful openers rotation policy.
"I'll admit it hasn't yielded results yet, but I wasn't expecting an instant success. This week W Beasley has been bumped up to open after a disappointing season thus far. He's itching to get some runs on the board and I'm sure he won't waste the opportunity."

The side to play Northerns is as follows (in batting order):
W Beasley, M Salman (wk), M Dawn (c), F Yashpal, K Agnew, R Kripal Singh, W Robertson, A Dave, W Cornwall, D Gough, D Kaneria.

Alex Crampton announced this week's Tasmania side in a press conference "We've named the same side as last week despite the defeat to Western Province. This group of players have functioned well so far this season and hopefully they'll carry on doing so."

"There are some players who are underperforming though, and if they do continue to fall below my expectations they can expect some time in the Seconds. Obviously we are doing our best to support these players, and hopefully they will be back to their best for this match."

Crampton also answered questions on winning the Manager of the Month award "Obviously I'm very honoured to win the award, but I can't let it get to my head. We've got to keep on playing the way we have done so far, I'm very proud of the guys this season."

Keepers needs stitches but declared fit

Lancashire were able to name an unchanged side despite concerns over wicketkeeper Ziggy Siggins. On a team bonding session in a Birmingham nigthclub prior to the OD match, Siggins was hit on the head by an angry local whilst busting his moves on the dance floor. Siggins was showing a young lady how to bump and grind when an onlooker took exception and pounced. The keeper required 7 stitches in his head wound but pronounced himself fit for the vital match

Free State shaking things up
The Free State management has decided to shake things up in their OD team. Nikolai Rathod has been dropped. This is as a result of his poor batting according to manager Xavier Rose. Rose also added that Hashi Venkat's head is on teh chopping block and a bad performance could see him face the axe as well.

SA 2nds- Lookin' Good

At his press conference today SA 2nd XI manager, KJ Goughy, wasted no time expressing his feelings about the forthcoming game.

"This is probably the strongest team I have put out for the 2nd XI this season. The inclusion of Froggett and Madurasinghe makes this team so strong in batting. If I was not the coach of this team, I would spend my own hard earned cash to pay to watch them"

When asked about the unusual make up of the team
" I understand it is not usual to play 4 opening batsmen, 2 wicketkeepers and 4 spinners in the same team. It does, at first, appear very unbalanced. However, I can only work with the players I have and if that means I play 4 openers and go into the game with one recognised seamer, then so be it. It may look a little funky, but I like it"

When asked about taking over South Australia in the Cup he replied
"Its a huge honour. I think the Bossman has obviously recognised the talent I have shown in failing to win any of the 4 day games the 2nds have played. But seriously, I don't think I will do too much different and I am looking forward to the challenge"

When asked about the posibility of the SA 1st XI manager resigning Goughy said
"Hakon did what now...refused to comment?....are you guys being serious......Christ no....he had better be playing around with you guys.....I've still so much to learn from him....I know he will be staying...DON'T PANIC"

The press conference was ended by a press officer for South Australia helping a clearly shaken Goughy from the table and through the exit.

State Regular
Leicestershire unchanged yet again for important clash against South Australia.

Leicestershire have announced the same side yet again to take on South Australia in round 4. This is a very important game for us as it gives us an indication of where we stand in the scheme of things in the one day game. The only team we have played that lies in the top half of the table is Colts and on that day we lost by a small margin. A win here would certainly set us to restructure the goals of the season and to think potentially of trying to win the title, whilst a loss here will most likely send us back down to mid table and with a tough run in the next month makes the road more difficult. The match should be a closely fought match although I believe Leicestershire have the strength to get up at home and to remain in the top 2 positions.

Tamil Nadu Unchanged

At a press conference this week Tamil Nadu named an unchanged side to take on Karachi in Round 4 OD. Despite the bowlers underperforming Cloete is hoping that his quality bowlers will eventually come right. Despite being tipped as potential title holders, TN are 2nd last on the table and in desperate need of a win against Karachi. Cloete was, however, quick to remind the media at the conference that it's still early days and it's a long season.
