****, absolute opposite of our FC start. Worringly, batting is our stronger point in OD...

A very poor performance, and all the Victorian players need to have a good had look at themselves.

Brad Hodge's dismissal from Andrew Symond's pies was very disappointing.

David Hussey took way too much strike, for what turned out to be a slow 85 in very good conditions.

But our bowling let us down the most. Grant Rabie the 15 year old quick was the only shining light, while the rest of the bowler merely allowed 'Old Man' Hayden to do what ever he pleased.

We have one of the best one-day attacks in the world and to concede 265 in 43 overs in unacceptable.

Don't be surprised if you see a different line-up next week.

Even Denton, who was told he was too old for academy might get a run.

Really good batting performance there. Our bowling has looked a bit shaky, but our batsman all did what was asked and we posted a very tough total.

2/2 to start the year - great start SZI.

COBRAS CLAIM WIN AT THE DEATH

Cape Cobras have made it two from two this season after winning their opening one day game of the campaign. For West Midlands Lightning manager Hamish McTavish it was another day to forget as his team fell to its second straight loss. Cobras came into the game full of confidence, coach Simon Fitzsimmons had said some new squad members and renewed enthusiasm for the one day game meant that that team would be geared up for a big year.

Winning the toss and batting first West Midlands posted a respectable 8/266 from their 50 overs. Loss of wickets and slow batting at the death cost them a chance of making closer to 300. The star for the Englishman was debutaunt T Pratt, he made a sublime 104 not out from 102 balls and showed why he was heavily sort after in this years draft. G Foot was the only other main contributor with 48 from 41 balls. Continuing his good start to the season spinner Nisitha Rupasinghe took 3/51 from 10 overs while Naved Ul Hasan again looked good in taking 2/38 from 10. The main worry for Cobras here is the fifth bowling option, in an effort to get through those ten extra overs quick Neil Dexter was given the new ball, he was reasonable in going for 59 runs but he did go wicketless.

Ryan Bacon looked the goods on debut

Cobras paced their chase well and claimed the victory with two balls to spare. Again it was the debutaunts staring with Ryan Bacon making 92 not out off 104 balls and Steffan Kahl bringing it home with a run a ball 37 not out. Matthew Wade made his second half century of the week scoring 57 from 56 balls in what was also his WCC One Day debut match. Bert Rankin was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets but he was expensive in going for 60 runs. The realy worry for McTavish here is a real lack of variey in their attack and I bet he cant wait to get paceman James Kirtley back on deck in a few weeks time.

Cobras finished at 4/268 winning it off the third last ball of the game, perhaps the six wicket victory to the South Africans is a bit misleading in how close the actual match was.

Cobras Player of the year points
3- Ryan Bacon
2- Nisitha Rupsinghe
1- Matthew Wade

Awesome! Was hoping the bowlers would do a little bit better, but at least it's good to see our batting is still as dominant as ever.
