Well done again to everyone, two weeks in a row of perfect submittials. Some interesting results this week, as to be expected in the first round of a new competition. It definitely was a week where ball dominated bat however.
The academy competition will begin today so WCC players that have been sent there are now unavailable for your team.

Our bowlers really let us down and our batsmen batted far too slowly. A few surprising performances from my players, which is something to build on, but in Division 1 we need to pick it up.

good allround display by Auckland. Styris might come good in remaining ODI's as well

Cobras Trounced by Improving Redbacks

Despite having low expectations in one day cricket this season Cape Cobras were expected to at least be competitive in their round one clash with South Australia. Enjoying home ground advantage Cobras went in with a line up reliant on swing bowling and a bit of spin. South Australian Captain Matthew Elliott won the toss and elected to bat first.

Elliott himself was one of the stars of one day cricket last season scoring two centuries along the way, however today wasn't his day as he went for 8. Next we saw an entertaining run a ball partnership between debutants Carter (44) and Rickman (53), when Rickman went with the score at 94 Cobras were in the game. A couple more quick wickets including that of Dan Christian for a duck and the match was evenly poised with South Australia at 4/114. Young batsman M Doshi then came in and pretty much took the game away from Cobras with a whirlwind 81 from 69 balls. Some solid contributions including 44 from another debutant P Boxall gave the Redbacks an imposing total 281. It could have been much worse for Cobras as SA still had six overs remaining when they were bowled out. William Fitzstanford was the pick of the bowlers with 4/51 from 9 overs, Charl Langeveldt also bowled well in taking two wickets.

The Cobras were never in the chase really. Graeme Smith coming off 711 runs last season fell first ball of the innings to Shaun Tait and was soon followed by Yannick Porter and Ben Allen. Cobras were pretty much gone at 3/26, Jacques Kallis (24), Ian Vernon (42) and Justin Kemp (14) all tried in vain to get the scoreboard moving along, but the lack of partnerships saw the South Africans crash to all out 135 off 37 overs. P Boxall capped off a great game with 3/18 from 9 overs. The pace and bounce of Tait (2/20) was also too much to handle.

Cobras manager Simon Fitzsimmons had this to say; "We played poor cricket in the second half of that game, the pitch was a belter and I thought we actually did well to bowl them out in 44 overs, 282 is a big chase but on that sort of deck it is very gettable, I think our batsmen went out there thinking they had to go for it from the first ball." "Obviously we are disappointed with the result but it's only round one, we aren't expected to do that well in one day cricket so the result itself wasn't what got me down, I really did expect us to put up a bigger challenge though."

Cobras are likely to make several changes for their round two clash, in form batsman Frank Hammett should come into calculations while the ease in which the Redbacks batsmen scored off Monde Zondeki is a worry for Fitzsimmons too.

South Australia 281 (44) [M Doshi 81, F Rickman 53, G Carter 44, W Fitzstanford 4/51]
defeated
Cobras 135 (37) [I Vernon 42, J Gillespie 3/16, P Boxall 3/18]

New South Wales Skittle for 194 as Styris Shines for Auckland

Auckland started off their ODI campaign with a win against New South Wales. Batting first, NSW never looked comfortable against the tight bowling of Auckland. Jacques led the attack for NSW while no other batsman gave the needed support for him. He top scored for his team with 75. All the Auckland bowlers were bowled to the field for most of the NSW innings. Styris tops the bowling charts with 3/7. NSW managed just 194 without playing all their quota of 50 overs.

Chasing the modest target of 195, Auckland chased it in style with 17 overs left in the innings with 7 wickets in hand. Q Carver is not out scoring 104 in just 90 balls while styris ably supported him with 38 runs.

Auckland Manager, Raghav described the win as "fantastic team effort" and assured that his team would do lot more better this season.

Scores:
NSW 194 All out in 32 overs
P Jacques 75, D Quayle 39 ; S Styris 3-7 A McKay 3-36
Auckland 197-3 in 33 overs
Q Carver 104 n.o , S Styris 38 ; S McGill 2-26

Result:
Auckland won by 7 wickets
Man of the match is S Styris

Titans gain first win of the season

Titans have began their OD campaign with a convincing 5 wicket win over English side, Kent. Kent began the match batting, and their opening pair set a good platform for the rest of the side with a 92 run partnership.

However, from there onwards it was the Titans game due to the lack of decent partnerships from the Kent batters, eventually being 6-232 from the allocated 50 overs. Whilst there were no star performances with the ball for the Titans, A Morkel, I Tahir and D Steyn all bowled well with each getting two scalps. The worrying sign is the two opening bowlers of A Nel and M Morkel who both struggled early on.

Chasing 233 was never going to be easy for the Titans batsmen considering the conditions and the strong bowling attack. And this was the case early on with the Titans fallling to 2-23 with failures from A Holland and T Darden. However, AB DeVilliers never looked like getting out, and with 2 valuable partnerships with K Rangneker and M Van Jaarsveld set the game out to be won by the Titans.

Coach Matthew Luff said after the game that despite an comfortable win, there will need to be at least one change in the team for the OD match due to be one frontline bowler short on the day. There will for sure be some headaches for the selectors due to the depth of the OD batting talent in the team.

Coaches Points
