I'm alright with us playing on a fast wicket in Sylhet against Zimbabwe FWIW. In theory, it'll prepare the batters for foreign conditions, and we should still be expected to beat Zimbabwe at home even if it's on a deck that suits their strengths. It's relevant that we also have quicks that we can deploy on such a deck. The fact that we ****ed up is an indictment of us and very much to Zimbabwe's credit. The bits of this game did seem to offer more to the quicks than your stereotypical Bangladeshi wicket, which may have been a double-edged sword by bringing the Zimbabwe quicks into the game
I don't want us putting out proper rank turners ever again really. Just a standard Bangladeshi featherbed that offers something to the spinners without making a mockery of the game should be enough of an advantage.Whenever England are playing next in Bangladesh, (probably in about 50 years lol), they’ll be well-served to revert to rank turners, but in the meantime, they may well accept their poor form at home in exchange for good results in Pakistan and the West Indies
Decks like that also offer an opportunity to rack up decent first innings totals, which the embarrassingly subpar batsmen in our current lineup desperately need.
We should probably avoid playing England on a fast deck at Sylhet though.
