I thought it would be good to have a thread covering all the warm matches and series. Hopefully we will get an idea of the players to watch out for.

There is a tri-series starting on Saturday between Windies, Sri Lanka and England. The matches will take place in Antigua at the Sir Vivian Richards stadium and Coolidge Ground. They will probably be live streamed on the West Indies cricket website. The squads are:

England and Sri Lanka fans, who should we watch out for?

For Windies, it mirrors our senior team really. Lots of exciting bowling talent, particularly fast bowlers. Ramon Simmonds is rapid, one of the fastest I have seen in the Caribbean at this level. He can be quite wild though. Matthew Forde is a fast medium bowler but extremely canny, moves it both ways and is accurate.

Kimani Melius is a decent strokeplayer and is generally regarded as our best batsman. He performed decently at the last World Cup. Didn;t get many runs in the senior List A tournament though. Leonardo Julien similarly struggled though hit a brilliant 80odd in the final, which is a great sign. He is an attacking left handed batsman.

Akhil Kumar possibly getting a little weary in his third game in as many days, but we finally got the camera behind the bowler's arm for his new ball spell today at the New Zealand U19 national tournament, where he's been allowed to play for Central Districts via a club cricket affiliation. Allows a slightly more realistic guess of what speeds he'll be clocking if he gets a TV game next month, maybe high 130s.

Kumar's generating more talk in our NZ domestic thread than any of the guys who can actually represent NZ U19, tbh! Apart from maybe 17yo Adithya Ashok's relatively mild revs leg spin eliciting plenty of teenage soft dismissals and getting rewarded with brilliant bowling figures at times. The NZ U19 batting will have a bit of boundary-clearing muscle to it this time too, but not a lot of new ball swing or rapid wheels spotted yet in the pace bowling department.

He looks very nippy indeed. Won't be easy for under 19s to face for sure.

Not sure how Ashok will go on Potchefstroom and Bloemfontein pitches, maybe quite well. The drier the better, seeing I've heard that wrong 'un actually grabs pretty fiercely and gets a good number of wickets for him when it's dry. Confirmed as being young enough to have the 2022 one in the West Indies up his sleeve, if this one doesn't pan out.

Aldridge is a promising beanpole quickish bowler who is a useful lower order bat.

Charlesworth is a solid young bat with decent technique and some first class experience at gloucestershire, although he doesn't have a particularly expansive game so I wouldn't expect him to be to great in the 50 overs stuff.

A few of the rest have played the odd game at county level but generally speaking I don't know too much about them, or don't rate them that highly. It's not always the ones with the most potential who get game time initially with their counties. The weaker counties inevitably blood good youngsters earlier than some of the bigger counties. Balderson for instance at Lancashire has done well for the u19s but hasn't got anywhere near their first team. Somerset seem to be producing lots of good young players right now, and there are 3 in this squad.

Based on that video Aldridge will be useful in South African conditions. Looks medium fast to me but some of that bounce was very impressive indeed.

It would seem that I got the fixture list wrong. WIndies Under 19 are against England Under 19 today. WIndies are batting first.

Superb seam bowling on display so far. Blake Cullen took 2 wickets bowling at a lively pace and Aldridge got 4 having unsettled all the batsmen with his accuracy and extra bounce. Windies were bowled out for 164. Leonardo Julien got 70 odd and has been the only batsman so far to look half decent.

Now England are 28/3 with Jadyen Seales bowling at a good pace and taking 2 wickets. Matthew Forde is also bowling quick but with lots of inward movement and bounce. Exciting stuff.

Windies Under 19 won by 36 runs. Left arm spinner Ashmead Nedd, one of the stand outs from the recent Lisa A tournament, mopped up the lower order to finish with 5/27 after the pacers had blown away the top and middle order.

SA U19 20-Man squad includes Gerald Coetzee who they believe should be back but Lifa Ntanzi is definitely out of the world cup.

Not at all impressed by that batting effort. Only two batsmen got to double figures. The platform was set at 100/2 in the 29th over. The rest of them got blown away. It's something to take notice, capitalizing on the situation and go out with a bang. Let's hope that in the next game captain Melius leads by example.

Tbh I don't think much of our batting. The bowling attack though, is the strongest I've seen it at this level. Forde will play for The test team, I have no doubt.
