So the main thing I want to discuss in here is who will replace the brilliant Ponting?

We have a number of options:
a) straight swap, so the new bat comes in at 4.
b) Watson moves to 4 and we pick a number 3 or opener and make them bat at 3 like Quiney did.
c) Clarke and/or Huss makes the move up and we go for a specialist bat at 6 or
d) similar to c, but we end up going for an all rounder at 6 or 7.

Personally I would play a specialist bat since he is replacing a specialist bat so for mine the new batsman will be one of: Hughes, Khawaja, Quiney, Smith and Bailey. Doolan and Ferguson are bolters too I guess.

The other option is c, or d where we would go for someone like Maxwell, Henriques, perhaps even Haddin.

In summary, I want Khawaja in the team but believe Hughes will come in at 3, moving Watson down to 4.

I suggest Theo

Theo Doropoulos ‏@TheoDrop

My favourite Ricky Ponting moment was when he high fived me after taking a catch during a test match then asked, "who the hell are you?"

haha, that would honestly be a career highlight for anyone.

Watto @ 3, Khawaja @ 4 for me.

Unsure if ANY of the replacements will be able to hold on through the Indian or England tours, do any of them have the ability to against spin, and swing? Wouldnt back Usman in England, at all. Hughes to me seems more likely to thrive in those 2 tours, much more so than Quiney or Doolan or Ferguson.

That's interesting though. I have a feeling Ponting wouldn't have been fielding when Theo took the catch. That was the game he hurt his elbow. Batted 9 in the 2nd innings.

It's possible Theo is indulging in some hyperbole.

haha

I ask because SL's top order really struggled against genuine swing bowlers in the NZ series.

Of course, being that they pretty much never play outside the subcontinent, they're likely to struggle against seam bowlers as well...
