Yeah and how would the Aussies cope with their bowling attack decimated of Cummins and Starc which is the equivalent of Wood & Archer for us. That's not forgetting the fact we have other options unable to stay fit either
Trouble for England is that Wood is made of glass and England have never been able to rely on him at any point of career. However he is at least available occasionally whereas Archer hasn't played fc for 2 years and looks a gamble to even see out a T20 match. It's almost like not actually having them at all.

Our fast bowling options have fallen apart due to injuries.

I think the plan would have been to play one of Archer and Wood in every test with Stone as back up to cover injury.

Obviously that hasn't happened and we're down to Wood.

Injuries have destroyed our bowling attack. Archer, Wood and Stone are injured, Stokes is struggling and of course Leach is injured.

A bowling attack of 2 from Broad, Robinson, Anderson and Woakes plus either Wood or Archer then Stokes and Leach is pretty good. Good variety and good depth.

Probably but always a little optimistic given Archer's problems. Wood was consistent in the last Ashes but you'd be happy to get him playing half the time. Stone's fitness seems even more unreliable. England have never been able to rely on that plan but have done well all the same. Injuries to Stokes and Leach have been crucial because you could've generally relied on them to be ok and build plans around them.

So annoyed we haven't managed Archer so much better earlier in his career. Gutting because we have lost our only genuinely fast option who actually intimidated them in 2019. Who do we feel is responsible for him bowling too many overs in that series, obviously you point finger at Root but surely others played a part in it too.

Here's what I said about it last year. I think the setup must have had a culture of not taking player conditioning at all seriously. I don't think you get to the point of giving 10-over spells to a fast fast bowler with extreme hyperextension unless there are deep issues.

Kinda sceptical that he could ever have had much of a test career anyway, but that doesn't excuse how badly he was handled.

Archer bowls with one of the least durable actions I've seen, which gave England two options. They could have tried to remodel it, but that's always a difficult process. Lots of the "science" behind which bowling actions cause injury is a bit fake, and there are at least as many disaster stories as success stories. I also think that psychologically a player usually needs to have experienced quite a bit of injury to fully commit to overhauling their action.

The other option was to carefully manage his injury risk. There are lots of ways to do this - typically you would want a bespoke strength and conditioning program, and different physios would quibble over the details. But the most basic, well-established principle would be avoiding spikes of activity at a much higher intensity or length than the player is used to. And they're allowing him to come into his first test ever and bowl 10-over spells flat-out.

I don't know if you could say that it "caused" his injury problems, but it's indicative of a team culture that either doesn't have competent conditioning staff, or (much more likely) doesn't pay any attention to them. If Archer's bowling 10-over spells, there's a lot else they're not taking very seriously too. I don't want to be overcritical - there's a balance to be struck, because medical staff are always very risk-averse, and any decent top-level sports team will ignore them a lot. But if there's one player who should have been handled very carefully, it was Archer, and they didn't do it.

Australia have really got their **** together on this stuff lately. Archer's 10-over debut spell was in a series where their attack outlasted England's by using heavy rotation. It wasn't commented on much, but if they'd lost I think all of their rotation would have become a major talking point.

****ing hate it when cops get smart arseGood in their socials. Issue PSAs and be done with it. Atrocious
No this was in 2017 after the CT final when we lost to Pak after Bumrah got Zaman out with a no-ball and then he went on to smash a matchwinning 100. They put the image of Bumrah overstepping with the tag line "crossing the line can be costly" or something. Bumrah took offence to that and went after them on twitter too.

Yeah. Bit dumb to bring up afl as a slur. So many of our best athletes choose AFL over cricket. Carey is only stumping Bairstow because he couldn't make the cut. Same probably applies to rugby in the northern states.
If your best Athletes choose AFL over cricket it just proves the point one of my favourite posters made on here many years ago; that Australia is an insular and ignorant backwater.

Now what was that poster’s name?

Oh that’s right it was Burgey

Corrin would faint at the athleticism, toughness and skill on display if he watched a game of AFL live.

Genuinely the fastest, craziest and most action-packed of any football code. TV does it no justice at all. Seriously, if anyone visits here, go and watch a game*. It’s incredible.

*watching sport anywhere you travel is a good idea if you can imo. Gives a good insight into the local people and what makes them tick
